Dead To A Dying World Elegy

13 New Metal Songs Out This Week

This week in metal we got the lead singles from the anticipated new Baroness, Martyrdod, and Dead To A Dying World albums, the first Possessed song in 33 years, the filthy new Noisem album dropped (which I wrote about in Notable Releases), and we also got new albums from Oozing Wound, Venom Prison, and more that you can read about in ‘Upcoming Metal Releases’ at Invisible Oranges. IO also interviewed Venom Prison ahead of the new album’s release. Read on for all the new metal (and metal-adjacent) songs we posted on BN this week…

BARONESS – “BORDERLINE”

Baroness’ new single “Borderlines” starts out sounding like the kind of melodic heavy rock they’ve been doing on their last two albums, but it takes a few unexpected turns, and ends up in very psychedelic territory. New LP Gold & Grey is out in June.

MARTYRDOD – “CASHLESS SOCIETY”

Martyrdod have finally revealed details on their new album Haxhammaren and released the first single, “Cashless Society,” which is a little thicker and sludgier than Martyrdod have sounded in a while. The band says, “This track came about from riffs that spoke ‘käng.’ The result is way more metal than expected which made us really excited. Play it loud!” Indeed. Read more here.

DEAD TO A DYING WORLD – “EMPTY HANDS, HOLLOW HYMNS”

Dallas blackened doomers Dead To A Dying World are releasing their new album Elegy on April 19 via Profound Lore. Their new single “Empty Hands, Hollow Hymns” premiered at Invisible Oranges, along with an interview. Read more over at IO.

GAAHLS WYRD – “GHOSTS INVITED” & “FROM THE SPEAR”

The infamous black metal veteran Gaahl (Gorgoroth, Wardruna) is releasing the album GastiR – Ghosts Invited with his Gaahls WYRD project on May 31 via Season of Mist, and two songs are out from it now. The title track shows off his gothy, epic howl, while “From the Spear” is faster, heavier, and growlier.

SAUDADE – “SHADOWS & LIGHT” (ft. CHELSEA WOLFE & CHINO MORENO)

Saudade is the insanely-stacked supergroup featuring Deftones singer Chino Moreno, Bad Brains guitarist Dr. Know, former Bad Brains drummer Mackie Jayson, Chuck Doom of Chino’s band Crosses, and prolific keyboardist John Medeski. The band first came together in 2016, but we haven’t heard anything new from them until today, when they released this new, Chelsea Wolfe-featuring track “Shadows & Light.” Knowing how haunting Chelsea’s vocal style can be, it’s no surprise she perfectly complements the ominous atmosphere laid out by the band.

WOE – “A VIOLENT DREAD” EP

Brooklyn extreme metal outfit Woe returned today with their new EP, A Violent Dread, which is their first new material since 2017’s Hope Attrition. The release consists of two blistering 9-minute tracks, the second of which being a cover of Dawn’s “The Knell and the World,” who Woe consider to be a “longtime influence.”

POSSESSED – “NO MORE ROOM IN HELL”

Death metal progenitors Possessed will release Revelations of Oblivion in May, which will be their first new album in 33 years. Here’s the first single.

NUMENOREAN – “ADORE”

Canadian post-black metallers Numenorean are releasing their new album Adore on April 12 via Season of Mist, and the title track premiered over at Invisible Oranges along with an interview. Read more here.

NOVARUPTA – “MARE TRANQUILLITATIS”

Swedish post-metal band Novarupta are releasing their new album Disillusioned Fire on April 29 via Suicide Records, and we premiered the song “Mare Tranquillitatis,” which features guest vocalist Mikael Stanne (Dark Tranquility, ex-Hammerfall). Read more here.

DEFLECT – MASS DELUSION (ALBUM STREAM)

Florida hardcore band Deflect have been making a name for themselves with some EPs and demos over the past few years, and today they dropped their full-length Mass Delusion on Eighty-Sixed Records.

DALEK – “RESPECT TO THE AUTHORS”

Industrial rap vets Dälek are releasing a limited edition vinyl-only EP on March 22 and we wrote more about the title track here.
