13 New Rap and R&B Songs Out This Week
One of the most anticipated rap albums of the year, the posthumous Pop Smoke album, is out today, and I reviewed that -- along with the new Westside Gunn album -- over at Notable Releases. Also scroll down for new songs from this week by Public Enemy, Kanye West, Ty Dolla $ign, Disclosure/slowthai/Amine, Mr. Muthafuckin' eXquire/Madlib, Buddy, Pink Siifu, and more...
PUBLIC ENEMY - "FIGHT THE POWER" (2020 VERSION ft. NAS, BLACK THOUGHT, RAPSODY, YG, JAHI, QUESTLOVE)
In the midst of nationwide protests against racism and police brutality, Public Enemy debuted a new version of "Fight The Power" last last night's (6/28) BET Awards, which you can read more about here.
KANYE WEST - "WASH US IN THE BLOOD" (ft. TRAVIS SCOTT)
Kanye has released the first single off his upcoming album God's Country, and it seems like somewhat a return to form following the super religious music he put out last year. You can read more about it here.
TY DOLLA $IGN - "EGO DEATH" (ft. KANYE WEST, FKA TWIGS, SKRILLEX & SERPENTWITHFEET)
Ty Dolla $ign has a new album on the way, and he assembled a truly jaw-dropping cast for its new single "Ego Death" - art pop eccentrics FKA twigs and serpentwithfeet, beatmaking giant Skrillex, and Kanye West. It's an ethereal, thumping track that brings these artists' various styles together nicely.
DISCLOSURE - "MY HIGH" (ft. AMINE & SLOWTHAI)
Disclosure have revealed the Aminé and slowthai collab off their upcoming album Energy, and it's a pounding dose of hip house.
MR. MUTHAFUCKIN' EXQUIRE - "BLACK MIRROR" (PROD. MADLIB)
Brooklyn rapper Mr. Muthafuckin' eXquire (who recently released the new protest/benefit single "Bootlicker") and Madlib (who recently helmed Noname's "Song 33") team up on this psychedelic new song, and they sound great together. eXquire wrote, "This record is about Black masculinity and community. Long Live my Uncle Shango who transitioned June 17. I’m deeply saddened and I will never forget you."
BUDDY - "FACES" (ft. LUCKY DAYE)
PINK SIIFU & SHUNGU - "CEMENT"
Avant-rapper Pink Siifu and Brussels DJ/producer teamed up for this dose of psychedelic rap, as part of Mexican Summer’s Looking Glass digital singles series. "This song like a gospel song to me," Siifu said. "Eye don’t even know what [Shungu] sampled but tha shit hit right to my core when eye heard it."
SAWEETIE - "PRETTY BITCH FREESTYLE"
Saweetie follows her bouncy new single "Tap In" with this hard af new freestyle.
MONEYBAGG YO - "SAID SUM"
Moneybagg Yo follows his recent album Time Served (and the deluxe edition's seven bonus tracks) with yet another new single, the subwoofer-rattling trap-pop anthem "Said Sum."
A BOOGIE WIT DA HOODIE & DON Q - "FLOOD MY WRIST" (ft. LIL UZI VERT)
A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie and his frequent collaborator Don Q tap Lil Uzi Vert for this flashy new song and video.
JADASEA - "DEEP END" (PROD. KING KRULE)
Fresh off appearing on MIKE's great new album Weight of the World, UK rapper Jadasea put out his own new single produced by past collaborator King Krule (under his Edgar The Beatmaker guise). It's a great dose of hypnotic, chilled-out UK rap.
SD x BRIAN FRESCO - "ARETHA" (prod. PI'ERRE BOURNE)
Chicago rappers SD (ex-Glory Boyz Entertainment co-founder) and Brian Fresco (SAVEMONEY) are releasing a collaborative album, Muddbruddaas, on July 31, and its new single is the bouncy, melodic "Aretha."
DUCKWRTH - "FIND A WAY"
LA rapper Duckwrth tapped Alex Mali, Radio Ahlee, and Bayli for this new protest song that comes with a video that splices together a powerful compilation of photos and videos from both recent events and history.
