13 New Rap Songs Out This Week

It’s a huge week for new rap albums, with ScHoolboy Q, Kevin Abstract, and Rico Nasty, all three of which I reviewed for this week’s Notable Releases. (I also reviewed the Your Old Droog album which was surprise-released last week.) A bunch of good new hip hop singles also came out this week, including songs by Stormzy, YG, Beyonce, Duckwrth/Rico Nasty, Open Mike Eagle/MF Doom, DJ Snake (with Offset, 21 Savage, Sheck Wes & Gucci Mane), and more. Read on for all the hip hop we posted on BV this week…

STORMZY – “VOSSI BOP”

UK grime great Stormzy is back with his first single of 2019, and it comes with a video starring Idris Elba. It’s a very cool and powerful video, and the song is undeniable.

YG – “STOP SNITCHIN'”

During his Coachella set, YG debuted a new song aimed at 6ix9ine called “Stop Snitchin’,” which will appear on his new album 4REAL 4REAL (due May 3), and now he has released the studio version of the song. This one’s rawer and harder than most of YG’s more polished 2018 album Stay Dangerous, and it’s always great to hear him in this mode.

BEYONCE – “SORRY” (ORIGINAL DEMO)

Beyonce finally put Lemonade on Spotify and Apple Music, and the new release includes a demo version of “Sorry” that’s very different from the version that made the album and very worth hearing. The album version is one of its more upbeat songs, but this version is minimal and atmospheric, and it’s very cool.

SCHOOLBOY Q – “5200”

ScHoolboy Q’s new album CrasH Talk is out now and there’s a lot to like about it. One of the early highlights is the Kendrick-assisted “5200.”

OPEN MIKE EAGLE & MF DOOM – “POLICE MYSELF”

Episode two of Open Mike Eagle’s comedy/music Comedy Central show with Baron Vaughn, The New Negroes, premieres Friday, and this episode’s music video is out now. This one’s for a new song with MF Doom, and OME says, “The theme of the episode is criminality and we made a song and video outlining the idea of ‘double consciousness’ where one has to be aware of their own internal experience but also aware of how others perceive them. For black Americans and other marginalized people around the world that perception can be the difference between life and death.”

BUN B & STATIK SELEKTAH – TRILLSTATIK

Southern rap vet and one half of UGK, Bun B, teamed up with the great Boston producer Statik Selektah for the new collaborative album TrillStatik, which features appearances by Big K.R.I.T., Talib Kweli, Method Man, Meechy Dark of Flatbush Zombies, CJ Fly of Pro Era, Smoke DZA, Fat Joe, Lil Fame of M.O.P., Termanology, Westside Gunn, and more. They made the album in 11 hours and 40 minutes and livestreamed the process. You can watch the whole thing now:

DUCKWRTH – “LOVE IS LIKE A MOSHPIT” (ft. RICO NASTY)

DUCKWRTH is preparing to release his new album The Falling Man on May 17 via Republic, and its new single “LOVE IS LIKE A MOSHPIT” features the currently unstoppable Rico Nasty. Despite the song title and Rico’s punk side, she takes a lighter singing approach on this one, and her and DUCKWRTH sound great together.

KEVIN ABSTRACT – “PEACH” (ft. BEARFACE, JOBA, DOMINIC FIKE)

Kevin Abstract has shared the latest single from his new project ARIZONA baby that he’s been gradually rolling out this month. This one features his Brockhampton groupmates Bearface and JOBA, plus Dominic Fike, so it shouldn’t be surprising that it sounds like it could’ve been a Brockhampton song. And that’s of course not a bad thing at all.

DJ SNAKE – “ENZO” (ft. OFFSET, 21 SAVAGE, SHECK WES & GUCCI MANE)

DJ Snake is no stranger to putting tons of huge guests on the same song, and this time he did it with Atlanta rappers Offset, 21 Savage, and Gucci Mane, plus New York’s Sheck Wes. The French producer basically provides the crew with an Atlanta trap type beat, and they all sound in fine form on this one, which seems destined to be a big hit.

YOUNG NUDY – “MISTER” (ft. 21 SAVAGE)

Young Nudy is releasing a collaborative mixtape with producer Pi’erre Bourne, Sli’merre, on May 8 via his own Paradise East Records. New single “Mister” features Nudy’s cousin 21 Savage, and it’s a laid-back song with a very cool flute sample.

ASIAN DA BRAT – “DRACO” (ft. SMOKEPURRP)

Asian Da Brat (fka Asian Doll) is releasing her new album Unfucciwtable on May 3 via 1017 Eskimo/Alamo. It features appearances from Lil Durk, Calboy, Smooky Margielaa, Stunna4Vegas, Yung Mal, PNB Meen, and Smokepurrp, the latter of whom is on the whisper-trap new single “Draco.” Asian Da Brat says, “Me and Purpp was on tour with Gucci Mane in Salt Lake City. I was heading to the studio and Purpp got kicked out of his hotel, so I told him to pull up. We went back and forth in the booth and knocked it out. That’s my bro for real. Record came out hard as hell.”

LIL KIM – “NO AUTO BLANCO”

Lil’ Kim’s first album in 14 years, 9, has been pushed back from its original May 17 release date (new release date TBA), and she just released the brooding new single “No Auto Blanco.”

OMB PEEZY – PREACHER TO THE STREETS (MIXTAPE STREAM)

OMB Peezy is back with a new 16-song mixtape and features come from T.I., G-Eazy, Boosie Badazz, Sada Baby, and Lil Durk.
