14 New Rap Songs Out This Week

This week in hip hop, we got the release of new EPs from Future and Valee, new albums from Tee Grizzley and MoStack, and new singles from GoldLink/Tyler the Creator, Bas/JID, Channel Tres, The Underachievers, Kool Keith, Georgia Anne Muldrow & Dudley Perkins, and more. Read on for all the hip hop songs we posted on BV this week…

GOLDLINK – “U SAY” (ft. TYLER, THE CREATOR & JAY PRINCE)

Not only is GoldLink opening the massive Tyler, the Creator tour, he nabbed Tyler to contribute to this new song off GoldLink’s upcoming album Diaspora (due June 12). Jay Prince is on the song too, and it’s good stuff. GoldLink will also play Fallon the day before the album comes out.

BAS – “FRIED RICE” (ft. J.I.D)

Queens rapper Bas is back with a new single, “Fried Rice,” and this one features his Dreamville labelmate J.I.D who’s been unstoppable lately. They unsurprisingly sound great together and if you like your rap with head-nodding production and wordy, dizzying bars, you should check this out.

CHANNEL TRES – “SEXY BLACK TIMBERLAKE”

Compton artist Channel Tres, who recently opened Robyn’s tour, is releasing the Black Moses EP on August 2 via GODMODE, and the first single is “Sexy Black Timberlake,” a groovy blend of house music and West Coast rap. “As a black male, I’ve experienced being vilified or objectified depending on what I was wearing or what I was doing,” Tres says. “‘Sexy Black Timberlake’ is me being objectified as a sex object for my skin color. The production was inspired by The Chronic mixed with the west coast dance music I’ve been creating.”

THE UNDERACHIEVERS – “WASTEMAN”

Not only are The Underachievers very busy this year as members of the Beast Coast supergroup, the duo returned today with their own new single, and it’s as dizzying as you’d expect from these two.

G&D (GEORGIA ANNE MULDROW & DUDLEY PERKINS) – “WHERE I’M FROM”

Not only is psychedelic soul great Georgia Anne Muldrow releasing a new instrumental album this year, she’s teaming with her life and musical partner Dudley Perkins for the collaborative album Black Love & War, due August 9 via SomeOthaShip Connect / eOne Music. The first single is “Where I’m From,” which pairs Georgia’s soaring voice and Dudley’s booming bars over a neck-snapping beat.

KOOL KEITH – “TURN THE LEVELS”

Kool Keith’s new album KEITH comes out July 12 via Mello Music Group, and following recent single “Zero Fux” comes new single “Turn The Levels.” Like the previous single, it’s a head-nodding, psychedelic throwback (produced by The Beatnuts’ Psycho Les) that reminds you Kool Keith never goes out of style.

FUTURE – SAVE ME (EP STREAM)

Atlanta trap giant Future is back with a new seven-song EP called Save Me. It’s the prolific artist’s second project of 2019.

VALEE – RUNNIN’ RICH (EP STREAM)

Valee continues to rise and today he dropped the surprise EP Runnin’ Rich. It’s a sleepy sounding collection of songs, and features come from Vic Mensa, G Herbo, and King Louie.

MOSTACK – STACKO (ALBUM STREAM)

British rapper/singer MoStack has been buzzed about for a while and today he finally dropped his debut album, Stacko. It’s a breezy, enjoyable batch of songs featuring Stormzy, J Hus, Dave, Fredo, and Dolapo.

PHARRELL WILLIAMS – “LETTER TO MY GODFATHER”

Netflix just released The Black Godfather, a new documentary on music industry icon Clarence Avant, and Pharrell reunited with his old Neptunes partner Chad Hugo to write this auto-tuned ode to Clarence for the film.

TEE GRIZZLEY – “SWEET THANGS”

Tee Grizzley’s new album Scriptures came out this week, and its latest single is “Sweet Thangs.” Grizzley is in ruminative, storytelling mode on this one, and it’s another promising taste of this side of him.

RAPHAEL SAADIQ – “SOMETHING KEEPS CALLING” (ft. ROB BACON)

Raphael Saadiq shared the first single off his first album in eight years, which you can read more about here.

ERYKAH BADU & JAMES POYSER – “TEMPTED” (SQUEEZE COVER)

Erykah Badu and James Poyser released a cover of Squeeze’s 1981 hit “Tempted” as a Record Store Day 2019 7″ which has now been released digitally as well. They take the song into lovely, jazzy territory.

VEGYN – TEXT WHILE DRIVING IF YOU WANT TO MEET GOD (MIXTAPE STREAM)

London artist Vegyn, who’s perhaps best known for working with Frank Ocean on Endless, Blonde, and the Beats 1 radio show “blonded RADIO,” dropped a new 71-song mixtape. (A lot of the tracks are short, but still — wow!) Check it out below.
