Mr. Muthafuckin' eXquire

14 New Rap Songs Out This Week

It’s been another good week for new hip hop. The new Big K.R.I.T. album and the new Blood Orange mixtape (ft. Tinashe, Gangsta Boo, Project Pat, and more) are both out today, and I reviewed both for Notable Releases. Today also gave us the new Mr. Muthafuckin’ eXquire and Kool Keith albums (both embedded below), and new singles from Ghostface Killah, Cousin Stizz/City Girls, Common, Future/Meek Mill, Nas, Eve, Beyonce, dvsn, Sampa The Great, and more. Read on for all the hip hop we posted on BV this week…

MR. MUTHAFUCKIN’ EXQUIRE – MR. MUTHAFUCKIN’ EXQUIRE (ALBUM STREAM)

We haven’t heard from Mr. Muthafuckin’ eXquire in a while, but he’s back with a new self-titled album today, and Wiki guests on it. The weirdo, psychedelic twist that eXquire puts on classic-style rap is in fine form on this LP. Glad to have him back.

KOOL KEITH – KEITH (ALBUM STREAM)

Abstract rap legend Kool Keith is back with a new LP and it sees Keith doing what he does best. Guests include Paul Wall, Jeru the Damaja, B-Real, Joell Ortiz, and Psycho Les.

GHOSTFACE KILLAH – “CONDITIONING”

Wu-Tang Clan member Ghostface Killah will release his next album, GhostfaceKillahs, in August. The new single is “Conditioning” which comes with a heist-themed video that plays out like an action-thriller where the perfect job goes far from perfectly.

COUSIN STIZZ – “PERFECT” (ft. CITY GIRLS)

Boston’s Cousin Stizz is back with a head-nodding, ominous new banger and it features the unstoppable Miami duo City Girls. The two sound as great together as you’d hope.

YUNA – “CASTAWAY” (ft. TYLER, THE CREATOR)

Malaysian pop/R&B singer Yuna’s new album Rouge is out today on Verve Forecast, and, among other things, it features Tyler, the Creator on the song “Castaway.” (It also features Little Simz on previously released single “Pink Youth.”) It’s a smooth-sounding song, and it suits Tyler’s style well.

COMMON – “HERCULES” (ft. SWIZZ BEATZ, video starring VINCE STAPLES)

Rap vet Common announced a new album, Let Love, due August 30 via Loma Vista, and along with the announcement, he released new single “Hercules.” It features Swizz Beatz and the video stars Vince Staples as a convenience store cashier. The album also features recent single “H.E.R. Love” (ft. Daniel Caesar and Dwele).

FUTURE – “100 SHOOTERS” (ft. MEEK MILL & DOE BOY)

Not only are Future and Meek Mill teaming up for the Legendary Nights Tour, they’ve also teamed up for this new single. “100 Shooters” puts more of a hop in Future’s step than he’s had lately, and the renaissance of great Meek Mill verses continues.

NAS – “JARREAU OF RAP (SKATT ATTACK)”

Nas is releasing a sequel to 2002’s The Lost Tapes, titled The Lost Tapes 2, next week (7/19) It features unreleased songs from the sessions for Hip-Hop is Dead (2006), Untitled (2008) and Life is Good (2012), including the just-released “Jarreau of Rap (Skatt Attack).” It’s a jazz-influenced song produced by Eddie Cole and featuring the late soul singer Al Jarreau and jazz trumpeter Keyon Harrold.

EVE – “RELOAD” (ft. KONSHENS)

Veteran rapper Eve is back with her first new single since 2013’s Lip Lock. It’s a reggae-tinged track featuring Jamaican dancehall artist Konshens, and it finds Ruff Ryders’ First Lady in fine form.

BEYONCE – “SPIRIT”

Not only is Beyonce voicing Nala in the new Lion King remake and doing “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” with Childish Gambino for the soundtrack, she’s also the executive producer for a companion album, The Lion King: The Gift. She just released “Spirit” from that album, and you can read more about it here.

THE LION KING SOUNDTRACK

The day after Beyonce shared “Spirit” from her companion album to the new Lion King remake (in which she voices Nala), the soundtrack for the movie came out. It features versions of “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” (by Beyonce, Childish Gambino Billy Eichner, and Seth Rogen), “Hakuna Matata” (by Childish Gambino, Billy Eichner, Seth Rogen, and JD McCrary), “I Just Can’t Wait to Be King” (by JD McCracy, Shahadi Wright Joseph, and John Oliver), “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” (by Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen), and more.

DVSN – “MISS ME?” & “IN BETWEEN”

Drake-affiliated R&B duo dsvn are back with two new songs. Of “In Between,” the duo says it “speaks for the grey area between two people who still haven’t figured out the best ways to communicate their feelings. Sometimes we need to remove all the barriers, even the ones we may have never noticed.” Of “Miss Me?,” they say, “We all have that one person we can’t get off our mind, but we get scared to ask if they feel the same way. This song helps with that hard to ask question; ‘Do You Miss Me?’”

SAMPA THE GREAT – “OMG”

Zambian-born rapper Sampa The Great announced her debut album for Ninja Tune and shared the great new single “OMG” and its video, which you can read more about here.
