15 New Metal & Hardcore Songs Out This Week

One of the best metal albums I’ve heard in a while, the new Ulthar album, dropped today, and you can read more about that in Notable Releases, where you can also read reviews of Ian MacKaye’s new band Coriky’s debut album and LA screamo up and comers Nuvolascura’s great sophomore album (which was actually moved at the last minute to be released next week). Read on for the surprise new Power Trip live album and new songs by The Acacia Strain, Inter Arma, Vile Creature, Bell Witch/Aerial Ruin, Year of the Knife, and more…

POWER TRIP – LIVE IN SEATTLE 05.28.2018

Power Trip are arguably the best modern-day thrash band around, and as good as they are on their albums, they’re even better live. This surprise-released live album does a very good job of reminding you just how good their shows are in these concert-less times.

LIVING GATE – DEATHLUST EP

OSDM from members of YOB, Amenra, Oathbreaker, and Wiegedood, out now on Relapse.

THE ACACIA STRAIN – “ONE THOUSAND PAINFUL STRINGS” (ft. COURTNEY LAPLANTE) & “EARTH WILL BECOME DEATH”

The Acacia Strain have been dropping two-song singles all year, many of which feature guests (including members of Mortality Rate, Jesus Piece, and Left Behind), and today they released two more songs and revealed that these, the recent tracks, and a few others will make up their new album Slow Decay, due July 24 via Rise Records. One of the new ones features Courtney LaPlante of Spiritbox, and they’re both hefty dose of dark, gloomy metalcore.

INGESTED – “DEAD SERAPHIC FORMS”

British death metallers Ingested are prepping a new album, Where Only Gods May Tread — which features appearances by Kirk Windstein (Crowbar, Down), Vincent Bennett (The Acacia Strain) and Matt Honeycutt (Kublai Khan) — for release on August 14 via Unique Leader. First single “Dead Seraphic Forms” comes with a filmed-in-lockdown video featuring 38 surprise cameo appearances.

INTER ARMA – “MARCH OF THE PIGS” (NINE INCH NAILS COVER)

Inter Arma’s new covers album comes out in July via Relapse, and you can read more about this newly-released Nine Inch Nails cover here.

VILE CREATURE – “GLORY, GLORY! APATHY TOOK HELM!”

Vile Creature’s new album Glory, Glory! Apathy Took Helm! comes out on Prosthetic next week, and you can read more about the genuinely epic, 14-minute title track here.

BELL WITCH & AERIAL RUIN – “THE BASTARD WIND”

Bell Witch and Aerial Ruin have collaborated many times in the past, but now they’re gearing up to release a full collaborative album together, Stygian Bough Volume I, on June 26 via Profound Lore. Second single “The Bastard Wind” is a stunning dose of dark folk/slowcore.

TERMINAL NATION – “HOLOCENE EXTINCTION”

“America is a tinderbox,” reads Little Rock extreme metallic hardcore band Terminal Nation’s new bio. “Lockdowns, pandemic, police brutality, kleptocracy, the orange menace. The injustice system is alive and well. Since day one Terminal Nation has been shining a light on it all through their crushing music, point blank lyrics, merch and media, lashing out at institutional corruption and racist power structures. And not from a liberal coastal enclave where it’s a generally welcome message but from Deep Red Arkansas.” The band’s new album Holocene Extinction comes out August 7 via 20 Buck Spin and here’s the absolute rager of a title track.

GELD – “INFRASOUND”

Melbourne’s GELD make raw, venomous, whiplash-inducing hardcore, as you can hear on “Infrasound,” the first rager released off their upcoming album Beyond The Floor, due June 26 via Iron Lung Records.

SECOND ARROWS – “THORNES”

Here’s another single from Second Arrows’ (Deadguy, Nora, Ensign, The Banner, ex-Every Time I Die) anticipated debut album. Read more here.

YEAR OF THE KNIFE – “VIRTUAL NARCOTIC”

Delaware metallic hardcore ragers Year of the Knife announced their first album for Pure Noise, and you can read more about lead single “Virtual Narcotic” here.

SHARPTOOTH – “THE GRAY”

Baltimore melodic hardcore band Sharptooth’s sophomore album Transitional Forms comes out July 10 via Pure Noise, and here’s a new song from it, which you can read more about here.

MANTAR – “100%” (SONIC YOUTH COVER)

Speaking of metal covers albums, MANTAR have shared the Sonic Youth cover off their upcoming ’90s covers album Grungetown Hooligans II. It’s a pretty faithful rendition, just a little more evil, and it sounds great.

IT ONLY ENDS ONCE – LOST IN MY OWN HOLLOW

Houston screamo/black metal/post-rock blenders it only ends once released chasms will never be filled earlier this year, and today they followed it with yet another soaring, majestic record (via Middle-Man Records). All proceeds go to Black Lives Matter Houston.

BARFBAG – “PORNOCRACY”

Barfbag is the socio-political hardcore band fronted by music industry vet David Bason (who signed The Strokes to RCA and The Dresden Dolls to Roadrunner), and it also features The Dresden Dolls’ Brian Viglione on drums and Kenny Carkeet (who used to be in AWOLNATION and has produced/engineered albums for Anti-Flag, The Used, and more) on guitar and production. You can read more about this new rager, released just in time for Flag Day, here.
