15 New Songs Out Today

So many artists, so little time. Each week we review five new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, show recaps, track premieres, and more all day. That includes a lot of tour announcements, a list of tonight’s NYC shows, and NY shows that just went on sale. We publish a monthly playlist of some of our favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place…

HAYDEN THORPE (WILD BEASTS) – “EARTHLY NEEDS”

Former Wild Beasts member Hayden Thorpe releases his solo debut, Diviner, this week and while some of it is in piano-led torch song mode, “Earthly Needs” sounds more like a song he could’ve made with his old band, with tom-heavy percussion and Thorpe’s ethereal vocals floating above.

JULIEN BAKER – “EVERYBODY LOST SOMEBODY” (BLEACHERS COVER)

Julien Baker was part of the third edition of Bleachers’ Terrible Thrills series, a four-part record club featuring reimagined versions of songs from Bleachers’ 2017 album Gone Now covered by different artists. It wasn’t released digitally, but a rip of Julien’s cover has surfaced and you can listen to it here.

LE SUPERHOMARD FT. XAVIER BOYER – “DOMINO”

Parisian band Le Superhomard released the terrific Meadow Lane Park earlier this year, and are already back with this new single featuring Xavier Boyer of French pop vets Tahiti 80. If you like the Cardigans, Stereolab and and other space age bachelor pad sounds, this is pretty groovy.

JULIANA HATFIELD – “BROKEN DOLL”

Juliana Hatfield has a new video for “Broken Doll” off this year’s Weird. In it she plays a Playboy Club bunny who, for some reason, finds herself on a farm in rural America. “I love physical comedy and I finally got to do some myself in this video,” says Hatfield. “We are taking the piss out of glamour while also paying homage to the history of the bunnies (My mom was one of the original Playboy club cocktail waitresses in NYC in the early 1960’s–she wore the outfit and did the bunny dip to serve the drinks).”

SAMIA – “ODE TO ARTIFICE”

Rising indie rocker Samia has released a new single, “Ode to Artifice.” She describes it as “a desperate plea; my authentic self is lusting after my stage/party persona and begging her to merge.” It’s accompanied by a video directed by Nick D’Agostino and featuring a cameo appearance from Mary-Louise Parker.

GAUCHE – “PAY DAY”

Gauche, the band featuring members of Priests and Downtown Boys, have shared another song from their upcoming Merge debut, A People’s History of Gauche. “Pay Day” is a DIY new wave banger about living paycheck to paycheck.

NICOLE YUN (ETERNAL SUMMERS) – “AND AFTER ALL”

Eternal Summers’ singer/guitarist Nicole Yun is getting ready to release her solo debut, Paper Suit, and here’s another summery single from it — “And After All” has a little Britpop flare to it.

MANNEQUIN PUSSY – “WHO YOU ARE”

Mannequin Pussy’s new album for Epitaph, Patience, is due out June 21, and ahead of its release they’ve shared another new single, “Who You Are,” which trades screams for a slightly softer vocal performance but makes up for it with driving guitars.

ZEALOT R.I.P. – ZEALOT R.I.P. (EP STREAM)

Zealot R.I.P., which features Jason Hamacher (Frodus, Battery, CombatWoundedVeteran), Mike Schleibaum (Darkest Hour), and Blake Harrison (Pig Destroyer), are playing their first-ever live show today at the Swedish Embassy in DC as part of a panel discussion for new book Blood, Fire, Death: The Swedish Metal Story. Meanwhile, their self-titled EP is streaming in full over at Metal Injection and you can listen to “Magnetic Field” from it here:

LINGUA IGNOTA – “BUTCHER OF THE WORLD”

Lingua Ignota (aka Kristin Hayter) will follow up 2017’s All Bitches Die with Caligula on July 19 via Profound Lore which features contributions from Sam McKinlay (THE RITA), drummer Lee Buford (The Body), Ted Byrnes (Cackle Car, Wood & Metal), Dylan Walker (Full of Hell), Mike Berdan (Uniform), and Noraa Kaplan (Visibilities). First single “Butcher of the World” matches gothic, magisterial music with her unhinged screams for a very intense listen. Lingua Ignota also appears on the new Full of Hell album.

TY DOLLA $IGN – “PURPLE EMOJI” (FEAT. J COLE)

In an interview with Zane Lowe today, Ty Dolla $ign said he’s “just finishing up” a new album. “It’s definitely my favorite album I’ve done yet,” Ty said. “My most personal, really talking the talk, lot more serious songs but a couple party songs, bangers and stuff.” Ahead of that, he shared a new collaboration with J Cole, made while he was in the studio with Kanye West in NYC.

JAKOB DYLAN & REGINA SPEKTOR – “NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO” (LOVE COVER)

Andrew Slater’s documentary Echo in the Canyon, due out Friday, looks at the birth of the Laurel Canyon music scene with bands like The Byrds, The Beach Boys, Buffalo Springfield, and The Mamas & the Papas. Its soundtrack, with “music from and inspired by the documentary feature,” includes this Love cover from Regina Spektor and Jakob Dylan.

NICKY JAM, J BALVIN, ANUEL AA, ARCANGEL – “VEN Y HAZLO TU”

US-born, Puerto Rico-raised singer Nicky Jam teams up with previous collaborators J Balvin, Anuel AA, and Arcángel for this trap track.

AMYL & THE SNIFFERS – “GACKED WITH ANGER”

Amyl & The Sniffers will release their debut album this week (5/24) and they’ve just shared one more early taste, “Gacked on Anger,” a riffy ripper that burns hot and quick, over and done with in less than two minutes.

JOEY FATTS – CHIPPER JONES VOL. 4 (ALBUM STREAM)

CA rapper Joey Fatts has released a new mixtape that finds him working again with previous collaborator Vince Staples, as well as Dave East and JSMN.
