17 New Metal & Hardcore Songs Out This Week

Two anticipated California hardcore LPs came out today — Rotting Out (which you can read about in Notable Releases and Drain (which you can stream below) — and we also got a few killer metal albums (Like Rats, Caustic Wound, Calligram), and singles from Power Trip/Fucked Up offshoot Masterpiece Machine, Danzig Sings Elvis, Gruesome, Jarboe, Youth Code, ACxDC, …and Oceans, Helfró, Human Impact, and more. Read on for all the heavy we posted this week…

MASTERPIECE MACHINE (POWER TRIP, FUCKED UP) – “ROTTING FRUIT”

Masterpiece Machine is a new band featuring Power Trip frontman Riley Gale and Fucked Up members Jonah Falco (also of Career Suicide) and Mike Haliechuk, and you can read more about their debut song here.

DANZIG – “ONE NIGHT” (ELVIS COVER)

Feast your ears on the first taste of Danzig Sings Elvis and read more here.

GRUESOME – “A MIND DECAYED”

Matt Harvey’s bands Gruesome and Exhumed are releasing a split, Twisted Horror, on June 5 via Relapse, and Gruesome’s “A Mind Decayed” from that split is out now. Read more here.

JARBOE – “MAN OF HATE”

Former Swans member Jarboe, who has collaborated with Neurosis, A Perfect Circle, Puscifer, Jesu, Father Murphy and more over the years, releases new album Illusory next week and here’s another haunting, gothy folk track from it featuring her otherworldly vocals. “Man of Hate” a reworked version of her song from 1991’s Thirteen Masks and the accompanying video is a perfect, eerie match.

YOUTH CODE – “PUZZLE”

“‘Puzzle’ is a song written with the mindset of what happens when everything is ruined and defeat is the ever racing thought that paces the mind,” say industrial duo Youth Code. “Given the current climate, artistic individuals being forced to take pause whatsoever can be very difficult and harrowing. Hopefully with continuing creativity and furthering new breath into these tracks, we will have given way to inspiration for all and added just a little more gasoline to our internal burning fires.” It’s pretty killer, and you can also add your own touch to it by downloading the song’s files from The Armed’s ISOLATE/CREATE website and remixing/reworking/doing whatever you want with them.

ACXDC – “COPSUCKER”

Here’s another whiplash-inducer from LA grinders ACxDC’s upcoming Satan Is King. “Anyone that supports cops, politicians, judges, military, dictators, nazis, fascists and generally authoritarians of that ilk are copsuckers. Bootlicking of any type other than BDSM is for posers. Firefighters are chill,” they tell Decibel.

…AND OCEANS – “FIVE OF SWORDS”

Finnish black metal vets …and Oceans (who are closely related to Finnish death metal vets Festerday) have shared another track off their upcoming first album in 18 years, and it’s another skull-crusher.

HELFRÓ – “ÁVÖXTUR AF ROTNU TRÉ”

Icelandic black metallers Helfró have shared another song off their upcoming self-titled album, and it’s another gorgeously heavy scorcher.

ABRAMS – “THAT PART OF ME”

Denver sludgy hard rockers Abrams have shared another riff-feast off their upcoming Modern Ways (due May 1 via Sailor Records).

HUMAN IMPACT – “CONTACT”

Unsane/Swans/Cop Shoot Cop offshoot Human Impact released a new standalone single (about pandemics, but eerily recorded before the mass quarantine of 2020), along with a video shot by fans around the world, documenting the impact of COVID-19 on their communities. Part of the proceeds from the song will go to the NYC Covid-19 Relief Fund. Read more here.

ELLEFSON (MEGADETH) – “SIMPLE TRUTH”

Megadeth bassist David Ellefson has released a new EP to benefit Italian COVID-19 relief foundations, featuring the new song “Simple Truth,” as well as live in Milan versions of “If You Were God” and “Vultures,” and a new mix of the latter.

GREG FOX – “SOTAVIÑÑĀṆA”

This track from the ever-busy Greg Fox (Liturgy/Uniform/etc) comes from the same sessions as his forthcoming Contact (due May 29 via RVNG INTL) but this is a standalone for Adult Swim’s Singles series. As you might expect from a man known for drumming, “Sotaviññāṇa” is highly percussive, but it’s also highly electronic, eerie, and dark.

INFANT ISLAND – “SOMEPLACE ELSE”

Infant Island, whose split with Frail Body, Massa Nera, and dianacrawls was one of our favorite screamo releases of 2019, will release a new album, Beneath, on May 15 via Dog Knights Productions. The first single, “Someplace Else,” is a song that’s not screamo at all, but instead is an Eno-esque ambient track that builds to a noise crescendo and cuts off just when it sounds like something else is about to happen. It vey much leaves you wanting more, and we’re looking forward to hearing just what that “more” is.

DIANACRAWLS – A GLITTER MANIFESTO EP

One day after Infant Island released a new song came new music from another artist on last year’s great Frail Body/Massa Nera/Infant Island/dianacrawls split: dianacrawls. They just dropped the A Glitter Manifesto, which is bookended by two very non-screamo songs (the chilled-out electronic opener “The Unforgiven V” and the indie rock-leaning closer “Assumée”), but the stuff in between is pretty fucking brutal.

DARK SKY BURIAL – DE OMNIBUS DUBITANDUM EST

Longtime Napalm Death bassist Shane Embury has released a new instrumental album that pulls from chilled-out electronic music, ambient music, film scores, crackling noise, and other meditative sounds. Read more here.

DRAIN – CALIFORNIA CURSED

Santa Cruz hardcore up and comers Drain dropped this killer new LP on Revelation today, along with a new video for the title track.

OUTER HEAVEN – LIVE AT SAINT VITUS, 02-22-20

Since no live shows are happening, live albums feel like a bigger deal than ever. Here’s one Outer Heaven recorded at Brooklyn’s Saint Vitus in February before lockdown began. It was their first show with Tomb Mold’s Derrick Vella as a member.
