17 New Metal Songs Out This Week

One of today’s big metal releases is the new Russian Circles album, which I wrote about in Notable Releases, and you can also catch up on more of this week’s new metal albums — including Mylingar, Bauda, Ordeals, Grima, and more — in Invisible Oranges’ Upcoming Metal Releases. This week also gave us metal (and metal adjacent) singles from Street Sects, Portrayal of Guilt, Korn, SeeYouSpaceCowboy, Phil Anselmo’s band En Minor, 1349, Devourment, Coffins, and more. Read on for all the metal we posted on BV this week…

STREET SECTS – “BOXCARS”

Street Sects’ new Gentrification III: Death and Displacement 7″ is out today, featuring the previously released “Goodbye Recidivist Road” and the just-released “Boxcars.” It’s a dose of punk-tinged industrial rock that’s chaotic yet controlled.

PORTRAYAL OF GUILT – “MORAL DECAY”

Texas screamo band Portrayal of Guilt have shared a second single off their upcoming Suffering Is A Gift EP (due 8/30 via Closed Casket Activities), and this one is much more of an atmospheric slow-burner than we’re used to from this band. In it’s own way, it’s just as great as their more spastic stuff.

KORN – “COLD”

Korn get extra heavy on the second single off upcoming album The Nothing.

SEEYOUSPACECOWBOY – “ARMED WITH THEIR TEETH”

Rising math/sasscore band SeeYouSpaceCowboy have announced their first proper full-length and shared the lead single, and you can read more about it here.

EN MINOR – “ON THE FLOOR”

Former Pantera frontman Phil Anselmo explores influences like Swans and Nick Cave with his new gothic folk-tinged project En Minor, whose first song is out now. Read much more about the project from Anselmo himself here.

1349 – “ENTER COLD VOID DREAMING”

Norwegian black metallers 1349 have announced their new album and shared a second single, and you can read more about it here.

DEVOURMENT – “A VIRULENT STRAIN OF RETALIATION”

Brutal death metal vets Devourment have shared another song off their upcoming album Obscene Majesty, and this one comes with a NSFW video (violence, gore) that’s just as, uh, obscene, as the song.

COFFINS – “FORGOTTEN CEMETERY”

Tokyo death-doomers Coffins are releasing their new album Beyond The Circular Demise on September 20 via Relapse, and the first single is the absurdly heavy “Forgotten Cemetery.”

BLACKWATER HOLYLIGHT – “MOTORCYCLE”

Portland psych band Blackwater Holylight are gearing up to open for Swedish doomers Monolord on their North American tour, and ahead of that tour they’ve announced a new album, Veils of Winter, due October 11 via RidingEasy Records. The first single is the hypnotic “Motorcycle,” which is a little heavier and doomier than the songs on Blackwater Holylight’s last album, and should pair very well with Monolord on the road this fall. It sorta sounds like Queens of the Stone Age meets ’60s girl groups, and that sounds as cool in execution as it does on paper.

CLITERATI – “TRANS IS BEAUTIFUL”

Oregon hardcore band Cliterati’s new album Ugly Truths, Beautiful Lies comes out in August via Tankcrimes, and you can read more about the powerful new single “Trans Is Beautiful” and its equally powerful video here.

DARSOMBRA – TRANSMISSION

Baltimore psych duo Darsombra (Brian Daniloski on guitar, vocals, and effects, and Ann Everton on synthesizer, vocals, gong, and visuals) are self-releasing their new album Transmission on August 9. The whole album is one very trippy 42-minute track, and you can stream it now and read more about it here.

KAONASHI – “MY 5-YEAR PLAN” (VIDEO)

Proggy, mathy Philly post-hardcore band Kaonashi have signed to Equal Vision, and they’re celebrating the announcement of the signing with a new video for “My 5-Year Plan” off their self-released 2018 EP Why Did You Do It?. “Ever since we started this band, our goal was to sign to Equal Vision Records. Their sound and style is what Kaonashi was based off of. We still can’t believe it,” the band says, and if you like classic Equal Vision stuff (like Converge, Hope Conspiracy, Fall of Troy, early Coheed, etc), you’ll probably like this too. Also catch the band on tour this year.

THE FIGHT – “CLENCHED FIST OF HUMAN GREED” & “PROMISED LAND”

The Fight are one of the more promising newer names in LIHC, and they’ve now signed to Triple B Records and dropped this new whiplash-inducing two-song promo on the label.

REFUSED – “BLOOD RED”

Refused’s vision of the shape of punk to come is more alt-metal than ever on the first single off upcoming album War Music.

DENZEL CURRY – “CLOUT COBAIN” (w/ FUCKED UP) & “I AGAINST I” (w/ BAD BRAINS)

Denzel Curry went above and beyond for his new Spotify Session, tapping Toronto hardcore band Fucked Up to back him on a version of his own “Clout Cobain” and the actual Bad Brains to back him on a cover of Bad Brains’ classic “I Against I.” The whole thing is awesome, and you can read more and hear Denzel and Bad Brains’ Darryl Jenifer in conversation here.
