18 New Metal Songs Out This Week

This week in heavy music, we got the new Lingua Ignota, Falls of Rauros, and Enforced albums (all three of which I reviewed for Notable Releases), plus new albums (and/or EPs) from Tomb Mold, Wormed, Wreck and Reference, Cancer, Halshug, and more that you can read about at Invisible Oranges’ Upcoming Metal Releases. This week also gave us new singles from Sacred Reich, Chelsea Wolfe, Firebreather, Ledge, Nightfell, Shock Narcotic, Culted, and more. Read on for all the metal (and metal adjacent) songs we posted on BV this week…

SACRED REICH – “MANIFEST REALITY”

Sacred Reich have shared a second single off their first album in 23 years, and like the previous single, it sees the thrash veterans doing what they do best.

CHELSEA WOLFE – “AMERICAN DARKNESS”

“American Darkness” is the second single off Chelsea Wolfe’s anticipated new album Birth of Violence, and you can read more about it here.

FIREBREATHER – “DANCING FLAMES”

Swedish sludgesters Firebreather are releasing a new album on RidingEasy Records this year and you can read more about the roaring, nine-and-a-half minute lead single “Dancing Flames” here.

EYE FLYS (mem FULL OF HELL) – “STEMS”

Eye Flys is the quartet of Spencer Hazard (Full of Hell), Jake Smith (Backslider), and Kevin Bernsten (Triac), and Patrick Forrest, and their debut EP Context comes out September 13 via Thrill Jockey. The first single is “Stems,” which is a bulldozing dose of hardcore-tinged sludge.

LEDGE – “WE SUFFER”

Ledge (the current band of former Weekend Nachos frontman John Hoffman) have shared another single off their sophomore album All I Hope For (due August 30 via Translation Loss), and it’s another ugly-sounding blend of grind and sludge. “The song ‘We Suffer’ is about addiction and the toll it takes on family and friends,” Hoffman told Revolver. “It was meant to capture that point where hurt turns into resentment. You sacrifice your own time and energy to care for someone you love but end up taking their abuse and neglect for so long that you start to see the forest for the trees.”

CULTED – “DIRT BLACK CHALICE”

Canada and Sweden based band Culted are releasing the Vespertina Synaxis – A Prayer for Union & Emptiness EP on August 30 via Season of Mist, and a four-minute clip of the ten-minute “Dirt Black Chalice” is streaming now. The song falls somewhere between doom, sludge, industrial, and noise, and it’s pretty killer stuff.

WARISH – “HEALTER SKELTER”

Not only is Riley Hawk a pro skater like his dad Tony Hawk, he’s also the frontman of the scuzz-punk band Warish, and they’re pretty legit. They’re following their self-titled debut EP with their debut full-length, Down In Flames, on September 13 via RidingEasy Records. The first single is “Healter Skelter,” which references the same Manson Family scenario as the Beatles song, and it’s an evil, fuzzed-out ripper. Warish are also opening stoner metal vets Acid King’s upcoming tour, and both bands are playing Levitation.

PETBRICK – “HORSE”

Petbrick is a new project from former Sepultura drummer Igor Cavalera and Big Lad’s Wayne Adams, and their debut album I is due October 25 via the trusty Closed Casket Activities label. It’s much more of an industrial/noise project than you might have expected from Igor, who’s spent the last decade making music with Cavalera Conspiracy, and it’s pretty cool stuff.

REGIONAL JUSTICE CENTER – “IT ONLY GETS WORSE”

Regional Justice Center, the powerviolence project of Ian Shelton (of Seattle’s New Gods and Drug Culture), have announced a new EP for Triple B Records and shared the first single, all of which you can read more about here.

THE NUMBER TWELVE LOOKS LIKE YOU – “RUIN THE SMILE”

NJ mathcore vets The Number Twelve Looks Like You announced their first new album in a decade, and lead single “Ruin The Smile” is as chaotic and genre-defying as you’d expect. Read more about the song and album here. The song’s new video was written and directed by frontman Jesse Korman, who says, “We wanted to create a song and video highlighting an issue we’re passionate about, disgusted and infuriated by. The sexual abuse of children.”

DRAG THEM DOWN (mem AGORAPHOBIC NOSEBLEED) – “VIOLENT”

Drag Them Down is another project from John Jarvis of Agoraphobic Nosebleed (and Scour), and he’ll release its self-titled album on August 30. The first single is the grinding attack of “Violent.”

CHAMBER – “REPLACING EVERY WEAKNESS”

Nashville mathy metalcore crew Chamber have signed to Pure Noise and released the Ripping / Pulling / Tearing compilation which features songs from their previous EP and 7″ as well as the just-released skullcrusher, “Replacing Every Weakness.”

KILLSWITCH ENGAGE – “I AM BROKEN TOO”

Killswitch Engage have shared a second single off their upcoming album Atonement, due August 16 via Metal Blade. Frontman Jesse Leach says, “This song is very near and dear to my heart. I wanted the listener to feel the urgency, the heaviness of the topic as well as a possible connection. Many people suffer from mental illness in one form or another. I want nothing more than for people to feel like they are not alone in this struggle. There is always someone there to help, to listen, and to be there for you. Don’t lose hope and don’t let your brokenness consume you. Broken can be fixed, or at the very least, maintained. No one is alone in this fight.” The band is donating a portion of the proceeds for the song to Hope For The Day, a non-profit organization that focuses on suicide prevention. The band is also touring with Clutch and Cro-Mags JM, including Asbury Park, Long Island, Port Chester, and more.

POLEMICIST – “ON REDEMPTION”

Philly black/death band Polemicist are releasing their debut album Thus Spoke Zarathustra on August 30 via Fólkvangr, and they’re now streaming lead single “On Redemption” over at Decibel. It’s a promising taste of what’s to come for this band, who already sound wise beyond their years. If you’re in Philly or NJ, you can catch them live this summer too.

EYES OF THE LORD – “MISERY FEELS LIKE HOME,” “THREE PARTS SAD,” & “SEVENTEEN”

Eyes of the Lord (former 100 Demons vocalist Bruce LePage plus members of Twitching Tongues, God’s Hate and The Midnight Sons) are following their 2017 EP Call It War with the full-length album Misery Feels Like Home on August 30 via Closed Casket Activities, and three songs are streaming now. All three are metallic hardcore crushers, and they sound even rawer and filthier than the EP, and LePage’s voice sounds extra gravelly on these. Check ’em out.

NIGHTFELL – “THE SWALLOWING OF FLIES”

Nightfell — the brainchild of Todd Burdette (Tragedy, His Hero Is Gone, Warcry) and Tim Call (Mournful Congregation, Sempiternal Dusk, Weregoat) — are releasing their third album, A Sanity Deranged, on September 13 via 20 Buck Spin. The first single is “The Swallowing of Flies,” which is seven and a half minutes of raw, evil, reverb-heavy death-doom.

SHOCK NARCOTIC – “ERRATIC SMEARING VITALS”

As mentioned, Shock Narotic (mem Dillinger Escape Plan, Child Bite, Black Dahlia Murder, etc) are releasing their debut LP I Have Seen The Future And It Doesn’t Work on August 16 via Housecore Records. Second single “Erratic Smearing Vitals” is out now, and it’s 58 seconds of grindy madness. Listen at Decibel.

VEX – “TIMEWORN”

Austin death metallers Vex are gearing up for a new album, and they’ve shared the new single “Timeworn.” Drummer Eoghan McCloskey says, “We chose ‘Timeworn’ as the first single because it’s emblematic of the direction we are taking on our new record. Proggy and atmospheric like our last album, but shorter songs with more streamlined, less indulgent arrangements.” That should give you a good idea of what to expect from this ass-kicking new song.
