18 New Songs Out Today

The Raconteurs
The Raconteurs

So many artists, so little time. Each week we review five new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, show recaps, track premieres, and more all day. That includes a lot of tour announcements, a list of tonight’s NYC shows, and NY shows that just went on sale. We publish a monthly playlist of some of our favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place…

GAZ COOMBES (SUPERGRASS) – “SALAMANDER”

Former Supergrass frontman Gaz Coombes returns with this banger of a new track — all glammed up with pouding piano and nice sax work. No word on if this is attached to an album (probably) buty this has us wanting to hear more.

MADONNA – “FUTURE” (FT. QUAVO)

Diplo produced this reggae-infected new single from Madonna’s upcoming album, Madame X. The song features Quavo and Madonna says, “It’s a song about the world that we live in today and the future of our civilization.” Don’t worry she manages to boil all that down into three minutes and 53 seconds.

QUAVO – “TOO MUCH SHAFT” (FT. SAWEETIE)

Speaking of Quavo, a month ahead of the upcoming Shaft reboot with Samuel L Jackson, Method Man and more comes this soundtrack cut from the Migos member, featuring rising rapper Saweetie. The pair have worked together before; Quavo features on two songs of Saweetie’s EP from earlier this year, Icy.

PRINCE DADDY & THE HYENA – “THE PROTOTYPE OF THE ULTIMATE LIFEFORM”

Prince Daddy & the Hyena release their new album Cosmic Thrill Seekers on June 28 via Counter Intuitive/Big Scary Monsters. The album joins DIY punk sounds with rock opera ambitions, which is evident in the band’s impassioned delivery on new single “The Prototype of the Ultimate Lifeform.”

THE AUSTERITY PROGRAM – “63:2 – 6”

As mentioned, NYC post-hardcore/noise rock staples The Austerity Program are releasing their new album Bible Songs 1 on June 14 and now they’re streaming lead single “63:2 – 6” which sees them doing what they do best. If you’re unfamiliar, fans of anything from The Jesus Lizard to Unsane to Self Defense Family should check this out. They’ve also got a release show in NYC.

THE INTELLIGENCE – “AUTEUR DETOUR”

Lars Finberg’s weirdo garage surf combo The Intelligence will return with new album Un-Psychedelic Peavy City next week and here’s a second drop of acid from it. Lars described it to Raven Sings the Blues as a “No Wave Santana Exercise” but smooth is never a word we’d use to describe The Intelligence.

LANA DEL REY – “DOIN’ TIME” (SUBLIME COVER)

Is Sublime cool again? We’re not sure, but Lana’s version of this 1996 songs puts a starry-eyed spin on the original.

THE RACONTEURS – HELP ME STRANGER

Jack White, Brendan Benson and the rest of The Raconteurs will release their new album Help Us Stranger next month and here’s the quasi-title track, a shuffling rock track led by bongos and acoustic guitar, with a fuzzy roar lurking just underneath.

BIGLEMOI – “JOYRIDE”

New Orleans five-piece Biglemoi make driving, shoegazy rock, and their new single “Joyride” has some nice, atmospheric guitarwork. it’s from album Permanent Vacation that’s out June 28.

YEASAYER – “ECSTATIC BABY”

Yeasayer release a new album, Erotic Reruns, on June 7, and they’ve shared another new single, the bouncy, sunny “Ecstatic Baby.”

CHANCE THE RAPPER – “GROCERIES” (FEAT. TISAKOREAN & MURDA BEATZ)

Chance the Rapper has been teasing a follow-up to his 2016 album Coloring Book for this summer. Following a recent collaboration with Lil Yachty and a guest spot on a Supa Bwe track, he’s shared this new song with Tisakorean and Murda Beatz.

DJINN (MEMBERS OF GOAT) – DJINN (ALBUM STREAM)

Made up of members of Swedish groups GOAT and Hills, DJINN make dark, skronky, full-thottle free jazz. This is their first album, out now via pysch label Rocket Recordings.

PURPLE MOUNTAINS (DAVID BERMAN OF SILVER JEWS) – “ALL MY HAPPINESS IS GONE”

Finally, David Berman is back with new music, working with most of Woods as his backing band and producers. This first single is pretty cool, and yes it does sound like “I Melt With You.” Welcome back, Dave!

RA RA RIOT – “FLOWERS”

Ra Ra Riot announced a new album, Superbloom, due out August 9 via Rob the Rich Recordings/Caroline. Like other recent tracks, summery, upbeat new single “Flowers” was produced by and co-written with the band’s frequent collaborator Rostam Batmanglij.

CORPSE FLOWER (MIKE PATTON & JEAN-CLAUDE VANNIER) – “ON TOP OF THE WORLD”

Mike Patton, of Faith No More, Mr Bungle, and more, has teamed with French composer and onetime Serge Gainsbourg collaborator Jean-Claude Vannier (who worked on Histoire de Melody Nelson) for a new project called Corpse Flower. The first single seems like a Reeses Cup combo of Patton and Vannier’s sonic worlds: suave and slinky, but with Patton bellowing at the top of his lungs, “When I get to the top of the world, I’ll take a shit right down on this earth!”

DJ KHALED – FATHER OF ASAHD (ALBUM STREAM)

DJ Khaled’s eleventh album comes with an all-star list of guests, including Cardi B, SZA, Nipsey Hussle, Meek Mill, Beyonce, Jay-Z, Future, Chance the Rapper, Quavo, Big Sean, Travis Scott, and more.

THE OCEAN BLUE – “KINGS AND QUEENS”

Alt-rock vets The Ocean Blue will release Kings and Queens / Knaves and Thieves, their first album in six years in June. This is the sorta title track.

MORRISSEY – “LADY WILLPOWER” (GARY PUCKETT & THE UNION GAP COVER)

We’re not exactly counting the days for Morrissey’s new covers album, but here’s a horn-colored take on Gary Puckett’s 1968 hit “Lady Willpower.”
