So many artists, so little time. Each week we review five new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, show recaps, track premieres, and more all day. That includes a lot of tour announcements, a list of tonight’s NYC shows, and NY shows that just went on sale. We publish a monthly playlist of some of our favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place…

ANIMAL COLLECTIVE – “SUSPEND THE TIME” (ft. AMI DANG)

Having already released their oceanic new album Tangerine Reef this year, Animal Collective have now shared a new single via The Ocean Foundation to raise awareness of ocean acidification. “Suspend the Time” is a gentle, psychedelic pop ballad sung by Deakin and featuring sitar from Ami Dang. You can read more about the project here.

JID – DICPARIO 2 (ALBUM STREAM)

After teasing it with some promising singles, Atlanta rapper JID released his new album DiCaprio 2 today on J Cole’s Dreamville label. It features his label boss, plus A$AP Ferg, 6LACK, Ella Mai, BJ the Chicago Kid, Method Man, and Joey Bada$$. JID’s got a style that’s often reminiscent of Kendrick Lamar and Anderson .Paak, and one thing is very clear from listening to this album: JID can really rap.

BLACK THOUGHT – STREAMS OF THOUGHT VOL. 2 (EP STREAM)

After releasing the 9th Wonder-produced Streams of Thought Vol. 1 EP earlier this year, The Roots frontman Black Thought followed it today with a Salaam Remi-produced sequel. The production is rich, and Black Thought handles all of Salaam Remi’s beats like the masterful MC he’s been for decades.

ICEAGE – “BROKEN HOURS”

Danish band Iceage, who played Music Hall of Williamsburg on Sunday and wrap up their fall tour at Brooklyn’s Elsewhere on Tuesday, have shared another new single. “Broken Hours” may be in waltz time but it’s a real slow burner whose coals get plenty hot by the end.

EX:RE (aka DAUGHTER’s ELENA TONRA) – “ROMANCE”

Daughter singer Elena Tonra is releasing her debut solo album (as Ex:Re) this week, and we wrote more about lead single “Romance” here.

YAEJI – ‘KARAOKE MIX FOR BLOWING UP THE WORKSHOP’

“I’ve always loved humming over my favorite tracks,” Yaeji tells Gorilla Vs. Bear. “I think I’ve been doing this way before I even started writing my own music. Imagining how a track could evolve or transform by adding my voice became almost like a habit to me. I could (imaginatively) collaborate with all my favorite producer heroes in my own little way.” You get just that here. “In this mix, I improvise vocals over a range of different tracks that I love.”

VISCERA/// – CITY OF DOPE AND VIOLENCE (EP STREAM)

Italian post-metal band Viscera/// are releasing their new City of Dope and Violence EP on December 2 via Third I Rex, and we premiered a full stream of it today at Invisible Oranges. IO’s Andrew Rothmund writes: “I was surprised (then later elated) to find a much gentler approach to songwriting, tone, and atmospherics now, especially the closing track. While this new EP carries forth the ethos of the band’s last full-length, it offers much more post-rock to round out their sound. Again, the band has nailed it, stylishly and creativity.” Listen here.

STEVE MASON – “WALKING AWAY FROM LOVE”

Former Beta Band frontman Steve Mason has shared another new song off his forthcoming LP About the Light which will be out in January and was made with Blur/Smiths producer Stephen Street. “When I listen to this album it feels and sounds like the first ‘legitimate’ record that I have ever made,” says Mason. “It’s hard to explain but it sounds like a ‘real’ album. I think that is partly the production, the playing and the work that I did with the band for all those months in our rehearsal room on the South Coast.” New single “Walking Away from Love” has a fun, decidedly T-Rex groove and a big chorus.

NIGHT BEATS – “ONE THING”

Garage-psych group Night Beats will release new LP, Myth of a Man, on January 19 via Heavenly. This is their fourth album and the band worked with Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach this time around. The first single is “One Thing,” which the band say “Pride is a fickle thing and it’s usually misplaced. It’s about being rolled up and smoked.”

PAVO PAVO – “GOLDENROD” & PORCHES REMIX

Brooklyn orch-pop duo Pavo Pavo (Oliver Hill and Eliza Bagg) will release new album Mystery Hour on January 25 via Bella Union. They’ve also just debuted new single Goldenrod and a remix by Porches. “Goldenrod came together in an afternoon at the piano – it was kind of the bleakest song I’d written, and when I went to make a demo, I didn’t want to hear my voice so clearly singing those words, it seemed more comfortable coming from some anonymous source,” says the group’s Oliver Hill. “So I sang it at a lower key and pitch shifted my voice up, making a new character come out of the speakers. Then, when a garbled, auto-tuned Eliza joined in a rope of harmony all the way through, it became a sort of alien heartbreak duet, and we didn’t touch the recording anymore, we just put that demo on the record.” The Porches mix, meanwhile, turns the brittle original into more of a synthpop number.

LE BUTCHERETTES – “FATHER/ELOHIM”

Mexico’s Le Butcherettes announced a new album, bi/MENTAL, due out February 1, 2019. They’ve shared its first single, “father/ELOHIM,” which is accompanied by a video showing scenes from their explosive live show.

COMBO CHIMBITA – “TESTIGO”

Brooklyn Tropical Futurist group Combo Chimbita have announced thier signing with ANTI- with this new single. Read more about it here.

THE GOTOBEDS – “NO PRESENT’ / HONEY RADAR “ENGLISH COSTUME (RAINBIRD)” & “NOTES FROM THE CORNELL FORESTRY CLUB” / VELVET MONKEYS – “TRUE BELIEVERS” / ELF POWER – “HONEY”
