19 New Rap Songs Out This Week

The great new Wiki album is out today, and I wrote about that over in Notable Releases (where you can also read about the new FKA twigs album, which isn’t really hip hop, but does have a song featuring Future). This week also gave us new singles from Dave, Mura Masa/slowthai, Tinashe/6LACK, clipping./Shabazz Palaces, Free Nationals/Syd, Griselda, DAWN, and more. Read on for all the hip hop we posted on BV this week…

THE FREE NATIONALS – “SHIBUYA” (ft. SYD)

Anderson .Paak’s backing band The Free Nationals have been rolling out guest-filled singles for about a year now, and now they’ve shared another new single featuring Syd of The Internet, and revealed that all five singles and eight other nw songs will make up their self-titled debut album, which is due December 13. Read more here.

SEBASTIAN – “DOORMAN” (ft. SYD)

Need more Syd? French Touch artist SebastiAn’s new album Thirst came out today via Ed Banger/Because Music, and one of its most anticipated collaborations — the song with Syd from The Internet — was released as a single right beforehand. Syd gives an airy, ethereal performance, and SebastiAn matches it with an atmospheric backdrop.

WIKI – “GRIM” (ft. LIL UGLY MANE & DENZEL CURRY)

Wiki’s anticipated new album OOFIE came out today (read more here), and yesterday he put out this standout track as a single. It features the triple threat of Wiki, his former Secret Circle groupmate Lil Ugly Mane, and the great Florida rapper Denzel Curry, and it’s as awesome in execution as it sounds on paper.

GRISELDA – “CHEF DREDS”

The Griselda Records crew (Westside Gunn, Conway The Machine, Benny The Butcher) are releasing their major label debut, W.W.C.D., on November 29 via Shady Records, and it’ll include this new song “Chef Dreds.” These guys have been on a roll all year, and this song is no different.

DAVE – “PAPER CUTS”

UK rapper Dave is about to begin his North American tour in support of his Mercury Prize-winning album Psychodrama, and just ahead of the tour, he dropped this new song which he had been playing live in the UK this past spring. It’s a dark, hard-hitting song that very much keeps Dave’s recent momentum going.

MURA MASA – “DEAL WIV IT” (ft. SLOWTHAI)

slowthai’s Mura Masa-asssisted “Doorman” is one of the best songs on his great debut album Nothing Great About Britain, so it was exciting to learn they’d be collaborating again for a song on Mura Masa’s new album R.Y.C (Raw Youth Collage). That song is out now, and like “Doorman,” “Deal Wiv It” finds the middle ground between punk, rap, and dance music, and it’s fueled by all the sneering attitude in the world.

REASON – “SAME OL SHIT”

TDE rapper Reason is back with a new single, “Same Ol Shit,” and as on last year’s great There You Have It, it finds Reason honoring ’90s-style rap traditions while still sounding fresh.

TINASHE & 6LACK – “TOUCH & GO”

Tinashe follows the clubby “Die A Little Bit” with a new single that features a duet with 6LACK and finds the two of them in slow jam territory, “Touch & Go.”

CLIPPING. – “AQUACODE DATABREAKS” (ft. SHABAZZ PALACES)

Sub Pop labelmates and fellow avant-rap groups clipping. and Shabazz Palaces have teamed up for this new song, which is as warped and weird as you’d expect.

DAWN – “SLIM THICC” (ft. TRAKGIRL) / “AY PAPI” (ft. BROOKE CANDY)

DAWN (aka Dawn Richard) is set to follow this year’s new breed with a new project in the spring, and today she released a new double single from it. Following the more organic sounds of new breed, “Slim Thicc’ and “Ay Papi” see her returning to a more futuristic, synthetic sound.

MOZZY – “I’LL NEVER TELL EM SHIT”

Sacramento rapper Mozzy continues his prolific reign with this downbeat, pensive new single.

KAROL G & NICKI MINAJ – “TUSA”

Colombian reggaeton singer Karol G taps Nicki Minaj — who raps and sings in both English and Spanish — for her new single “Tusa.”

LIL BABY – “WOAH”

Lil Baby pairs his auto-tuned, sing-songy raps with ominous trap production on the new “Woah.”

MC KEVIN O CHRIS – “ELA E DO TIPO” (REMIX ft. DRAKE)

Not only is Drake (almost definitely) entering the weed business, he’s on a new remix of Brazilian artist MC Kevin o Chris’ song “Ela É do Tipo.”

ATMOSPHERE – “BDE MAKA SKA”

Fresh off announcing a 2020 North American tour, Atmosphere are back with a new single, powered by some distorted psych-rock guitar.

N.A.O. QUELLY – “GUN SHOWERS” (prod. POWERS PLEASANT)

N.A.O. Quelly, who recently became the first artist to sign to Joey Bada$$’ new Badmind label, has linked with Pro Era’s Powers Pleasant for this melancholic new song.

GRANDMA – “STOMP AND GRIND” (ft. RICO NASTY)

Chillwavey alt-pop artist Grandma released Even If We Don’t Get It Together today, and one of the highlights is this song which features guest rapping and singing from Rico Nasty, and comes with a video.

REESE LAFLARE – FINAL FANTASY

Atlanta rapper Reese LaFlare’s new Final Fantasy project is out today.

TNGHT – “FIRST BODY”

TNGHT’s new TNGHT II EP comes out next week (11/12) via Warp/Lucky Me, and they’ve shared another speaker-shaking single from it.
