19 New Songs Out Today
So many artists, so little time. Each week we review five new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, show recaps, track premieres, and more all day. That includes a lot of tour announcements, a list of tonight’s NYC shows, and NY shows that just went on sale. We publish a monthly playlist of some of our favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place…
JAI PAUL - "DO YOU LOVE HER NOW" & "HE"
Elusive artist Jai Paul seemed poised to be a major breakout indie/R&B star when he released "BTSTU" back in 2011, but things took an unfortunate turn when his unfinished demos were leaked in 2013 and he shied away from the spotlight after that. He has now officially released those demos and written a statement on the incident on his website, and he also put out two new songs over the weekend. The brooding "Do You Love Her Now" and the MJ-on-acid vibes of "He" show an artist who is continuing to progress long past his initial period of buzz, and it's great to have him back.

LOST UNDER HEAVEN - "TEEN VIOLENCE"
Lost Under Heaven (ex-WU LYF) released their second album, Love Hates What You Become, in January, and now they've returned with a new single. "Teen Violence" was originally meant for their January album, but Ellery James Roberts and Ebony Hoorn re-recorded it to release it as a single. "'Teen Violence' is an allegorical tragedy about an Androgynous Prophet of the Divine Feminine who is brutally silenced by an aggressively ignorant society that is unable to comprehend his/her vision due to the paralysis of Cultural Immaturity," Ellery says. "It is a song of our time: this formative moment in human history where we are faced with a plethora of crises that threaten the extinction of the species. Our Politics fail to make adequate response as the wider culture continues to fracture into increasingly oppositional individualist hysteria."

ABBATH - "OUTSTRIDER"
Abbath's anticipated new album Outstrider comes out July 5 via Season of Mist, and the title track is streaming now. It's a slower-paced song compared to the previous singles, but no less evil.

LUSSURIA - THREE KNOCKS
Dark ambient/noise artist Lussuria (aka Jim Mroz) returned with a new four-song album, Three Knocks, on Hospital Productions, which was written after Mroz's grandmother was "suddenly stricken with an unexplained illness resulting in unconsciousness." "When she came to," the album description adds, "she relayed the tale of 'three knocks' to her son."

ERYKAH BADU & JAMES POYSER - "TEMPTED" (SQUEEZE COVER)
Erykah Badu and James Poyser released a cover of Squeeze's 1981 hit "Tempted" as a Record Store Day 2019 7" which has now been released digitally as well. They take the song into lovely, jazzy territory.

!!! (CHK CHK CHK) - "UR PARANOID" & "OFF THE GRID"
Long-running dancerock crew !!! are back with two new songs: minimal electro jam "UR Paranoid" (and an accompanying video) and "Off the Grid." This band always sounds best when they're pissed off, which is the case here.

THE SOFT CAVALRY - "BULLETPROOF"
The Soft Cavalry, the duo of Rachel Goswell (Slowdive) and her husband Steven Clarke, have shared another track from their upcoming debut. Mixing acoustic and electronic instrumentation, "Bulletproof" is a pretty track with an equally nice video, featuring that has Goswell signing the lyrics in BSL (British Sign Language). "“For a long time now I have wanted to do a video that incorporates BSL due to my son being Profoundly Deaf with no hearing. He also has additional needs with CHARGE Syndrome that brings many added complications. I live within two worlds both Hearing and Deaf; and have learned a lot in the last nine years about the many barriers Deaf people can face in our society. One of the main points I was taught very quickly is how music is accessible to Deaf people. Of course music can be felt through vibration but visually I feel so much more could be done to enhance the experience. We made this video with the support of Sign Up BSL to translate ‘Bulletproof’ so that the song flows properly in BSL. Sometimes with signing videos - they can be a literal translation of the words (Sign Supported English) which will make little sense to the Deaf viewer. Our hope is that we have achieved this and also that one day as my son gets older and develops his language skills he will be able to understand this song."

JESSE MALIN - "ROOM 13" (FT. LUCINDA WILLIAMS)
Jesse Malin will release his new album, Sunset Kids, on August 30 on Wicked Cool Records. THe album was produced by Lucinda Williams who also sings on the first single, "Room 13," which Malin calls "the heart of the record, about those meditative moments far out of your comfort zone, where you're forced to reflect on the things that really matter."

WHITNEY - "FTA"
“FTA" is a gentle track, with lovely slide guitar and horn and string arrangements, and also brief but makes for a very tasty amuse-bouche for Whitney's album to come.

STATIQBLOOM - "POSSESSION"
Brooklyn industrial duo Statiqbloom are releasing their new Sanford Parker-recorded album Asphyxia this Friday (6/7) via Metropolis Records, and its latest single is "Possession." It's abrasive and confrontational, but also ready for goth-populated dancefloors and eerily accessible.

DESTRUCTION - "BORN TO PERISH"
German thrash vets Destruction are releasing their new album and first with ex-Annihilator drummer Randy Black, Born To Perish, on August 9 via Nuclear Blast. "The title track was the first song we wrote for the new record and it definitely shows the strength that Destruction has in 2019," said frontman Schirmer. "It immediately set the bar high for the rest of the album. It features everything that we stand for: speed, picking, variety and punch. Randy came up with some very cool drum patterns and Damir offered up a really crunchy solo part, so both new members are heavily involved here!" Other than the modern production, it sounds right out of the band's classic '80s era, and that's not a bad thing at all in Destruction's case.

TEE GRIZZLEY - "SWEET THANGS"
Tee Grizzley's new album Scriptures comes out Friday, June 7 via 300 Entertainment, and its latest single is "Sweet Thangs." Grizzley is in ruminative, storytelling mode on this one, and it's another promising taste of this side of him.

BON IVER - "HEY, MA" & "U (MAN LIKE)"
