1986 Syd Straw lineup of Golden Palominos playing a show

The Golden Palominos

Reuniting to play live for the first time in more than two decades, The Golden Palominos 1985-87 lineup with Syd Straw will join local literary rockers in unveiling Electric Literature‘s 4th fiction anthology. Featuring The Wingdale Community Singers, with author Rick Moody on guitar and vocals, and Brooklyn indie-rockers The Walking Hellos, featuring Myla Goldberg (best-selling author of Bee Season) on banjo and accordion, celebrating their CD release. Electric Literature’s mission is to use new media and innovative distribution to keep literature a vital part of popular culture.

The bands play at (Le) Poisson Rouge on Friday, May 7th. Tickets are on sale.

The Golden Palominos are centered on drummer/percussionist Anton Fier and have featured a ton of guest members over the years. The initial lineup was Fier with singer-guitarist Arto Lindsay, saxophonist John Zorn, bass guitarist Bill Laswell and violinist/guitarist Fred Frith. The Syd Straw-era, referenced above, featured guest spots by John Lydon, Michael Stipe, Jack Bruce and Richard Thompson. Outside of the group, Fier’s credits are plenty, and include drumming on the Feelies’ Crazy Rhythms and Pere Ubu’s Song of the Bailing Man.
