20 New Metal & Hardcore Songs Out This Week

This week in heavy music, I recommend the new LP from Louisville metalcore/post-hardcore band Greyhaven and the new screamo split from Home Is Where and Record Setter, both of which you can read about in Notable Releases, and you can also read up on the Anatomia/Undergang split, The Troops of Doom (ex-Sepultura), Epitaphe, Faceless Entity, and more over at Invisible Oranges. Plus, we got new singles from Primitive Man, Sumerlands, Axioma, Wormrot, Ufomammut, Burner, Mutually Assured Destruction, Warthog, The Halo Effect (Dark Tranquillity, In Flames), and more, and you can read on for those and other ragers…

AXIOMA – “A NEW DARK AGE”

Cleveland’s Axioma will follow their 2019 debut LP Crown with their sophomore album, Sepsis, on June 24 via Translation Loss. The first single is “A New Dark Age,” a black metal/sludge/post-hardcore hybrid that the band tells Decibel is about the concept that “the more things change, the more they stay the same […] We like to leave ideas open to interpretation, so please enjoy and/or despise our miscreant take on the state of the destruction of the human race by none other than ourselves.”

WORMROT – “WHEN TALKING FAILS, IT’S TIME FOR VIOLENCE”

Sinagpore’s Wormrot have shared another track off their upcoming LP Hiss, and it starts out in their usual chaotic grindcore territory before turning into something that sounds more like classic first-wave punk.

BORIS – “FUNNEL OF LOVE” (SQÜRL/WANDA JACKSON COVER) & THOU/MIZMOR/EMMA RUTH RUNDLE – “NIGHT” (ZOLA JESUS COVER)

Two more tracks from Sacred Bones’ upcoming covers comp have arrived, and you can read about them here.

UFOMAMMUT – “PYRAMIND”

Italian psychedelic metal band Ufomammut have shared the second single off their upcoming ninth album Fenice, and you can read more about it here.

BURNER – “A VISION OF THE END” (ft. TRAVIS of SICK MINDS)

The worlds of death metal, thrash, and hardcore have been colliding a lot lately, and one of the brightest new voices in this venn diagram is UK band Burner, who just announced their debut EP. Read more about the newly-released title track here.

MUTUALLY ASSURED DESTRUCTION – “SPIRIT LIBERATION” (ft. RANDY BLYTHE)

Richmond metallic hardcore band Mutually Assured Destruction have announced their debut LP for Triple B Records, and the first single features Lamb of God frontman Randy Blythe. Read more about it here.

WARTHOG – “FOUR WALLS”

THE HALO EFFECT (DARK TRANQUILLITY, IN FLAMES) – “DAYS OF THE LOST”

The Halo Effect is the newish band fronted by Dark Tranquillity vocalist Mikael Stanne and also features former In Flames members Jesper Strömblad, Niclas Engelin, Peter Iwers and Daniel Svensson. Their debut album Days of the Lost arrives August 12 via Nuclear Blast, and they’ve just shared the title track, a very catchy offering of the type of Swedish melodeath that the members’ famous bands helped pioneer.

MOTOR SISTER (ANTHRAX, ARMORED SAINT, etc) – “RIGHT THERE, JUST LIKE THAT”

Motor Sister, the band featuring Jim Wilson (Mother Superior), Scott Ian (Anthrax), Pearl Aday, Joey Vera (Armored Saint), and John Tempesta (The Cult, ex-White Zombie), will release their new album Get Off on May 6 via Metal Blade, and here’s the ’70s hard rock-worshipping single “Right There, Just Like That.”

DEAF CLUB – “BUT DOES IT FART?”

Deaf Club — the chaotic hardcore band fronted by the prolific Justin Pearson (The Locust, Swing Kids, Retox, etc), alongside members of ACxDC, The Manx, Squid Pisser, and more — have shared a sneering, sarcastic song off their upcoming EP Bad Songs Forever. Read more about it here.

PREDATORY LIGHT – “TO PLEAD LIKE ANGELS”

Santa Fe black metallers Predatory Light have announced a new album, Death and the Twilight Hours, due May 20 via 20 Buck Spin, and first single “To Plead Like Angels” brings melody and pomp to black metal without sacrificing any of its pure evil.

MACHINE HEAD – “CHØKE ØN THE ASHES ØF YØUR HATE”

Machine Head have announced a new album, ØF KINGDØM AND CRØWN, and you can read more about the thrashy lead single here and pick up our exclusive “beer” vinyl variant.

GREY DAZE (CHESTER BENNINGTON) – “SATURATION (STRANGE LOVE)”

Grey Daze, the pre-Linkin Park band fronted by the late Chester Bennington, have announced a new album, The Phoenix, due June 17 via Loma Vista. Like their 2020 album Amends, it was made with vocals that Chester recorded in the ’90s and reworked instrumentals that the surviving members recorded recently. This album also features contributions from Dave Navarro, Richard Patrick and Bennington’s daughters, Lily and Lila Bennington. The first single is “Saturation (Strange Love),” a ’90s alt-metal banger that finds Chester’s voice sounding as unmistakable as ever.

MOON TOOTH – “ALPHA HOWL”

Long Island prog metallers Moon Tooth have shared the final single off upcoming album Phototroph (due 5/13 via Pure Noise), and it’s a catchy, tech-y riff feast that comes with a Goodfellas-inspired video.

BE WELL – “I WILL LEAVE YOU WITH THIS”

Melodic hardcore supergroup Be Well have shared the second single off their upcoming Hello Sun, and it’s another ultra-catchy ripper from this consistently great band.

ANNA SAGE – ANNA SAGE

Paris band Anna Sage have just unleashed this new self-titled LP via Zegema Beach/Klonosphere Records, and it’s a total onslaught of mathy, grindy hardcore that fans of Converge and Botch and other stuff in that realm should not miss out on.

MERZBOW & LAWRENCE ENGLISH – “A GATE OF LIGHT”

Japanese noise legend Merzbow and Australian composer Lawrence English will release a collaborative album, Eternal Stalker, on June 3 via Dais Records, and here’s the static-y, white-noise lead single.
