20 New Rap Songs Out This Week

It’s been a pretty great week for hip hop, with the release of the new Jamila Woods album (which I reviewed here), the new Queen Key album (see below), and singles from Maxo Kream/Megan Thee Stallion, Denzel Curry, Skepta, Flying Lotus/Anderson Paak, A$AP Ferg & Rocky, Mary J Blige/Nas, and more. Read on for all the hip hop we posted on BV this week…

MAXO KREAM – “SHE LIVE” (ft. MEGAN THEE STALLION)

Houston rappers Maxo Kream and Megan Thee Stallion are two of our favorite rappers in the world right now, so needless to say, we were excited to learn they released a song together. They sound like they’re having fun with this one, and it’s fun to listen to, too.

DENZEL CURRY – “RICKY”

Denzel Curry has released his first single since last year’s great TA13OO. “RICKY” is named after Denzel’s father, and while Denzel can be known to favor darker, weirder sounds, this one’s an accessible banger that should get any hip hop fan nodding their head.

SKEPTA – “BULLET FROM A GUN” & “GREAZE MODE”

Grime icon Skepta is releasing his new album Ignorance Is Bliss on May 31 via Boy Better Know, and going by lead single “Bullet From A Gun,” Skepta hasn’t lost his touch one bit. His introspective storytelling is on point, and it’s getting us really excited to hear what else Ignorance Is Bliss has in store. Update: Actually he released two songs from the album today, and second single “Greaze Mode” (ft. Nafe Smallz) is great too.

FLYING LOTUS – “MORE” (FT. ANDERSON .PAAK)

Flying Lotus has shared the Anderson .Paak collab off his guest-filled new album. He also announced a tour today; more info here.

A$AP FERG – “PUPS” (ft. A$AP ROCKY)

A$AP Mob’s two biggest members, Ferg and Rocky, have joined forces once again for the new single “Pups.” Rocky’s own music has gotten increasingly weird and psychedelic, but this one’s the kind of in-your-face banger that Ferg has stayed loyal to and Rocky’s still great at this kind of thing too.

MARY J BLIGE & NAS – “THRIVING”

Speaking of Mary J Blige, she dropped a new song with Nas to help promote their upcoming co-headlining tour. Mary J’s pipes are in fine form, and the early-2000s-sounding production of this song is a lot more in Nas’ comfort zone than the Kanye beats on his last album were.

OPEN MIKE EAGLE & LIZZO – “EXTRA CONSENT”

Open Mike Eagle and Lizzo find funny ways to tackle consent in this new song/video, which you can read more about here.

JAMILA WOODS – “BALDWIN” (ft. NICO SEGAL)

Jamila Woods shared one more single from her great new album LEGACY! LEGACY! ahead of its release. Every song on the album is named after a different black or brown icon, and this one is named after James Baldwin. Jamila says, “‘Baldwin’ is a song inspired by the work of James Baldwin, particularly the ‘Letter To My Nephew’ in his book The Fire Next Time. He had an incredible ability to speak about whiteness in a way that was hard-hitting and nuanced, and delivered some of the most elegant reads to white America, providing me a lens to think about how I see whiteness at work in my world today.”

ZEELOPERZ – “EASTER SUNDAY” (ft. EARL SWEATSHIRT)

ZeeloperZ is a member of Bruiser Brigade with Danny Brown, and today he released a new solo album, Dyn-o-mite, executive produced by Black Noi$e. It features Earl Sweatshirt on the song “Easter Sunday,” and if you liked the warped sounds of Earl’s 2018 album Some Rap Songs, you’re gonna like this too.

MUSTARD – “100 BANDS” (ft. QUAVO, 21 SAVAGE, YG & MEEK MILL)

(DJ) Mustard is gearing up to release a new album, and today he shared a new single featuring the all-star cast of Quavo of Migos, 21 Savage, YG, and Meek Mill.

TEE GRIZZLEY – “LOCKED UP”

Tee Grizzley announced a Timbaland-produced project called Scriptures, due June 7 via 300 Entertainment, and today he released the new song “Locked Up.” It’s a sad, serious song about the prison system — and specifically about his mother being locked up for life — that sees Grizzley in melancholic, sing-rap mode.

MOZZY – “WINNING” (ft. LIL POPPA)

Sacramento rapper Mozzy is releasing his new project Internal Affairs on May 31 via Mozzy Records/EMPIRE, and new single “Winning” has the kind of West Coast bounce that Mozzy does so well.

MARLO – “SOAKIN’ WET” (ft. CITY GIRLS & OFFSET)

Atlanta rapper Marlo has a new single out and he’s tapped two of his more popular Quality Control labelmates for this one, City Girls and Offset.

GEORGIA ANNE MULDROW – “EMO BLUES” & “WHEN THE FONK RADIATES”

Psychedelic soul great Georgia Anne Muldrow is releasing a new instrumental album, VWETO II, on June 21 via Mello Music Group, and two hypnotic tracks are streaming now.

MADONNA – “CRAVE” (ft. SWAE LEE)

Madonna has shared another song off her upcoming Madame X, and this one’s a hip hop-tinged ballad that features Rae Sremmurd’s Swae Lee.

BEAST COAST – BASEMENT CYPHER

Beast Coast — the NYC rap supergroup with Flatbush Zombies, The Underachievers, Joey Bada$$, and other Pro Era members — announced their debut album today and also released a new 10-minute cypher.

CJ FLY – “BIRD”

Speaking of, Beast Coast/Pro Era member CJ Fly is gearing up to release a new solo album and he put out the lead single today.

QUEEN KEY – EAT MY PUSSY AGAIN (ALBUM STREAM)

Queen Key, who we recently called one of the 10 new-ish rappers who are defining 2019, followed last year’s Eat My Pussy today with the Eat My Pussy Again sequel, and it proves she just gets better and better and continues to expand her sound.
