Queen and Slim

20 New Rap Songs Out This Week

It’s been another busy week for hip hop, including the finale of Rhythm + Flow, whose winner D Smoke released a new album the day after the show ended. And the week isn’t over yet — Rhythm + Flow judge Chance the Rapper will be the host and musical guest on SNL tomorrow (10/26).

This week also gave us new singles from Megan Thee Stallion, Smino, Tinashe, Pusha T, Dave East/Nas, Doja Cat, Sada Baby, and more, plus some new full-length projects, including…

KANYE WEST – JESUS IS KING

It actually came out!

MEGAN THEE STALLION x VICKEELO – “RIDE OR DIE”

Megan Thee Stallion’s song from the Queen & Slim soundtrack is here. After the incredible year she’s already had, she didn’t have to go this hard, but she went ahead and did anyway.

SMINO – “TRINA”

Smino follows the debut single from Ghetto Sage (his trio with Noname and Saba) with his second solo single of 2019, “Trina.” Produced by Kenny Beats and Lido, it’s got more of a bounce than Smino’s music usually has, and it comes with a video that’s nearly in sketch comedy territory.

TINASHE – “DIE A LITTLE BIT” (ft. MS BANKS)

Having parted ways with RCA earlier this year, R&B singer Tinashe put out her first independent single, and it sees her crooning over a bass-heavy club beat. It’s cool stuff.

PUSHA T & SWIZZ BEATZ – “NO PATIENCE”

More songs are out from the Godfather of Harlem soundtrack, including Pusha T and Swizz Beatz’s “No Patience,” which is another late-career winner from Push.

DAVE EAST – “GODFATHER 4” (ft. NAS)

Unrelated to Godfather of Harlem is this song called “Godfather 4” from Harlem rapper Dave East. It’s the latest single off Dave’s upcoming album Survival, and it features one of his biggest influences, Nas. Nas is fully in his comfort zone here, and Dave East holds his own next to the legend.

DOJA CAT – “RULES”

Doja Cat’s new album Hot Pink drops November 8 via RCA, and following recent single “Bottom Bitch” comes new single “Rules.” Both the song and video (which is a mock Western where Doja Cat gets very intimate with a snake) are overflowing with swagger, and the whole thing looks and sounds like a million bucks.

AJ TRACEY – “FLOSS” (ft. MOSTACK & NOT3S)

Rising UK rapper AJ Tracey has released a deluxe edition of his self-titled debut album, and it features this new single “Floss,” a banger that finds the middle ground between UK grime and Atlanta trap.

TNGHT – “DOLLAZ”

Hudson Mohawke and Lunice recently re-activated TNGHT and released their first new song in six years, “Serpent,” and now they have announced their first EP in seven years, TNGHT II, due November 12 via Warp/Lucky Me. IT features “Serpent” as well as the just-released “Dollaz.” Like “Serpent,” it sounds like TNGHT but it’s not just a rehash of their first EP.

DAVIDO – “RISKY” (ft. POPCAAN)

Nigerian Afro-pop singer Davido’s new album A Good Time comes out November 22 via Davido Worldwide Entertainment/Sony UK/RCA, and it includes new single “Risky.” This one features Jamaican dancehall artist Popcaan, whose style sounds great next to Davido’s.

ARMANI WHITE – “TOUCHE”

Philly rapper Armani White has announced a new album, Keep In Touch, which pays tribute to his father, who passed away in 2016 after a battle with prostate cancer. The first single is “Touché,” and Armani tells HipHopDX, “I wanted to fully embody the street persona of my father when I wrote [‘Touché’] … to personify the idea that pain can be mended with money and material things.” It’s a brief but powerful song — check it out and stay tuned for the album to drop on November 8.

KESHA – “RAISING HELL” (ft. BIG FREEDIA)

Kesha’s new album High Road comes out January 10 via Kemosabe/RCA, and it includes a song called “Resentment” that features both Brian Wilson and Sturgill Simpson, as well as this new single “Raising Hell” which features bounce queen Big Freedia. Following the more organic sounding Rainbow, “Raising Hell” is sort of a return to synthy danceable Kesha, but with new musical and lyrical perspective, and it’s got a pounding rhythm section that’s perfect for Freedia.

LIZZO FEAT. ARIANA GRANDE – “GOOD AS HELL (REMIX)”

Like “Truth Hurts,” “Good As Hell” is another song Lizzo released a few years ago that turned into a sleeper hit during what has been Lizzo’s most massive year yet. She’s capitalizing on the track’s newfound success with this remix featuring Ariana Grande, whose vocal additions are a nice added touch to the already-inspiring song.

SADA BABY – “LAME”

Sada Baby continues to be one of the most promising new voices in Detroit rap, and he’s been dropping new singles like crazy lately. His latest, “Lame,” is another winner.

BANDGANG LONNIE BANDS x SHITTYBOYZ – “SIMBA”

For even more Detroit rap, current Detroit icon BandGang Lonnie Bands has hopped on a new song with the ShittyBoyz. As you’d probably expect, tis a banger.

AKAI SOLO & PINK SIIFU – BLACK SAND

Experimental underground rappers AKAI SOLO and Pink Siifu have teamed up for a new collaborative album, Black Sand. Pink Siifu produced the album but doesn’t rap on it, though Siifu fans will surely dig his trippy production, and AKAI SOLO is a pretty great off-kilter rapper himself.

GUAPDAD 4000 – DIOR DEPOSITS

Guapdad 4000’s new album Dior Deposits is out today, and it’s loaded with cool guest appearances. There’s a song with Key!, Maxo Kream, and Denzel Curry; a song with Chance the Rapper and Charlie Wilson; a song with Mozzy; a song with Buddy; and still much more.

GALLANT – SWEET INSOMNIA

After a very long rollout, R&B singer Gallant’s new album is finally here. Guests include 6LACK and Sabrina Claudio, but for the most part Gallant’s the star of his own show, and he remains a very fine crooner.

LUCKI – DAYS B4 III

The third installment of Chicago rapper Lucki’s Days B4 series has arrived.

MURA MASA – “NO HOPE GENERATION”

Mura Masa has announced his sophomore album, R.Y.C (Raw Youth Collage), due January 17 via Polydor/Anchor Point. It features his recent Clairo collaboration; collaborations with slowthai (who made his great “Doorman” with Mura Masa), Tirzah, and Georgia, and more; and the just-released “No Hope Generation” which kinda finds Mura Masa embracing emo rap.
