20 New Songs Out Today

So many artists, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, show recaps, track premieres, and more all day. That includes a lot of tour announcements, a list of tonight’s NYC shows, and NY shows that just went on sale. We publish a monthly playlist of some of our favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place…

GEORGIA MAQ – “COLD SUMMER”

Camp Cope singer/guitarist Georgia Maq is gearing up for a US solo tour behind her solo debut album Pleaser, and now she dropped a new solo song, “Cold Summer.” Compared to the synthy sounds of Pleaser, this one’s an acoustic ballad more like her earlier solo work or Camp Cope’s “I’ve Got You,” and it’s embellished by some gorgeous string arrangements.

KEMBA – “NONE OF THIS MATTERS”

The underrated Bronx rapper Kemba is back with a new single that finds him in a more ominous, atmospheric mode than usual. Great stuff.

KOOL KEITH x THETAN – “BAD DREAMS”

If the new Body Count album isn’t enough non-cheesy rap metal by an ’80s-era rap lifer for you, here’s more. Kool Keith shared another song from his upcoming collab album with metal duo Thetan, and it’s dark, psychedelic, heavy, and awesome.

FLUME ft. TORO Y MOI – “THE DIFFERENCE”

The increasingly famous electronic musician Flume has teamed with Toro y Moi for “The Difference,” a dose of blissful, kinetic electronic pop.

PIGS PIGS PIGS PIGS PIGS PIGS PIGS – “RUBBERNECKER”

UK stoner rockers Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs have shared another song from their upcoming album Viscerals, and it’s a dose of fuzzed-out heavy psych that could appeal to Electric Wizard and QOTSA fans alike.

NOVELLER – “EFFEKTOLOGY”

Iggy Pop described Noveller to Jim Jarmusch as “symphonies for people that don’t have a lot of time.” This celestial symphony takes less than four minutes and is the first shared track from Noveller’s new album, Arrow.

SNAIL MAIL – “EVAPORAR” (LITTLE JOY COVER)

Snail Mail have shared a cover of “Evaporar” by Little Joy, the late-’00s band featuring The Strokes’ Fab Moretti, Rodrigo Amarante and Binki Shapiro. Lindsay Jordan’s version hews pretty close to the original‘s acoustic bossa nova feel.

JACK COLWELL – “I WILL NOT CHANGE MY WAYS” FT. OWEN PALLETT

Australian singer-songwriter Jack Colwell teamed up with Owen Pallett for this rustic folk song, with gorgeous string interludes from Owen.

JFDR – “THINK TOO FAST”

Icelandic artist JFDR has shared another track from her upcoming album New Dreams that’s out this week. There is an ASMR quality to Jófríður Ákadóttir’s whispered vocals that seem right in your ear. The video was shot in Japan with friend and director Timothée Lambrecq not long after a difficult break-up. “He had just relocated to Japan and was sort of studying the people, adjusting to the space,” says Jófríður. “It was equally ideal and un-ideal that during the short window we had to film I struggled to get myself motivated, so it became a pretty honest portrait of someone wandering alone in a strange foreign place (referencing the great film ‘Lost In Translation’). While the real stars of the video are the everyday people, struggling or not, maybe suddenly they become existential and start asking themselves what they’re missing in this twister that is life.”

SUFJAN STEVENS & LOWELL BRAMS – “CLIMB THAT MOUNTAIN”

There’s an encouraging, uplifting quality to “Climb That Mountain,” the third single off Sufjan Stevens’ new ambient album with his stepfather Lowell Brams, Aporia.
