Highlights from the main stage, appropriately named Beach Goth, included FIDLAR, a party punk band that sings mostly about drinking beer and not doing homework. While the lyrics are silly and quit meaningless, it was fun to let go and dance around to high-energy power chords. Also, props to the band for being the only ones to start a circle mosh pit in the beer garden.
Julian Casablancas and the Voidz was another highlight from the main stage. While hardcore Casablancas fans lost it, it was a little difficult to connect with some of the avant-garde music and warped vocals due to some sound issues.
Casablancas did return to the main stage, however, during the Growlers hour-long set, joining the band for a version of the Doors' "People are Strange." Deep vocals from Casablancas balanced Brooks Nielsen's trademark rasp nicely. The Growlers, who played a completely different set on Sunday, then finished out the night by taking requests from the audience. - [OC Register]
Day 2 of The Growlers' fourth annual Beach Goth fest featured sets from Julian Casablancas + Voidz, The Coathangers, DIIV, Die Antwoord, FIDLAR (who came dressed as Lumbergh from Office Space), a surprise appearances from Pauly Shore and Warren G and more.
