2017 Oscar nominations: 'La La Land,' Micachu, Justin Timberlake & more
The 2017 Academy Awards nominations were announced this morning, with La La Land leading the pack with a whopping 14 nominations, tying with Titanic and All About Eve for most nominations ever. That includes two for Best Original Song, where the other nominees are J Ralph and Sting‘s “The Empty Chair” (from Jim: The James Foley Story), Justin Timberlake‘s “Can’t Stop the Feeling!” (from Trolls), and Alessia Cara‘s “How Far I’ll Go” (from Moana).
In the best score, category, Micachu’s Mica Levi was nominated for Jackie, where she’s up against La La Land (Justin Hurwitz), Lion (Dustin O’Halloran, Hauschka), Moonlight (Nicholas Britell), and Passengers (Thomas Newman). Jóhann Jóhannsson’s terrific score for Arrival was not eligible, as the inclusion of a Max Richter piece “diluted” the work in the eyes of the Academy. So, go Micachu!
The other big nominees are Arrival and Moonlight with eight nominations each, followed by Hacksaw Ridge, Lion and Manchester by the Sea with six each. The Oscars will awarded on Sunday, February 26. Jimmy Kimmel is this year’s host and the awards will be broadcast on ABC at 8:30 PM Eastern.
All nominees are listed, along a stream of the nonimations video presentation, below.
