2019 Golden Globe Awards winners ('Bohemian Rhapsody,' "Shallow," 'Green Book,' 'Roma,' more)

The 2019 Golden Globe Awards are tonight, hosted by Andy Samberg and Sandra Oh (who had a good night) who kept things pretty light and pretty safe in their opening monologue.

On the movies side, Green Book was the big winner, beating A Star is Born for Best Musical/Comedy, Peter Farrelly won for Best Screenplay, and Mahershala Ali won Best Supporting Actor.

Bohemian Rhapsody won for Best Drama and Rami Malek won Best Actor for his role as Freddie Mercury.

The only award for A Star is Born won was Best Original Song for “Shallow” (co-writer Mark Ronson and Lady Gaga accepted); Best Score went to Justin Hurwitz for First Man.

Alfonso Cuaron deservedly won Best Director for his amazing Roma (which also won Best Foreign Language Film).

Christian Bale won Best Actor in a Comedy/Musical for playing Dick Cheney in Vice (he thanked Satan for the inspiration); Olivia Colman won Best Actress in a Comedy/Musical for The Favourite; Glenn Close won Best Actress in a Drama for The Wife; Regina King won Best Supporting Actress for If Beale Street Could Talk, who gave perhaps the most inspiring speech of the night.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse won Best Animated Film.

In television, The Americans won Best Drama while The Kominski Method won Best Comedy/Musical, and The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story won for Best Limited Series. Michael Douglas won Best Actor in a TV comedy or musical series for The Kominski Method; Sandra Oh won Best Actress in a Drama for Killing EveRachel Brosnahan won a second year in a row for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.

Richard Madden won Best Actor in a Drama series for Bodyguard. Patricia Clarkson won Best Supporting Actress for Sharp Objects, while Ben Whishaw won Best Supporting Actor for A Very English Scandal; Patricia Arquette won Best Actress in a limited series for Escape From Dannemora. while Darren Criss won Best Actor in a limited series for The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story.

The great Carol Burnett was the first recipient of a new lifetime achievement award named after her, the Carol Burnett Award for Outstanding Achievement in Television.

Jeff Bridges was given the Cecil B DeMille Award.
