Yesterday, Atlanta-based rapper 21 Savage (real name Sha Yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph) was arrested by agents from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), who allege that he has been in the US illegally for over a decade. The agency said that he is a British national, entered the US illegally in 2005, and remained here after his nonimmigrant visa expired a year later. It's believed that 21 Savage was born in Dominica, a West Indies island country that gained its independence from Britain in 1978, but whose citizens can still claim British Nationality.

It's since become known that 21's cousin, Atlanta rapper Young Nudy (real name Quantavious Thomas), was also arrested yesterday -- and charged with aggravated assault and participation in criminal gang activity -- which reportedly led directly to the arrest of 21 Savage. CBS and Pitchfork report that Nudy was pulled over as part of "an operation targeting" him and two other men, and that 21 was in the car with Nudy and the two others. It was then that 21 was handed over to ICE.

"We are working diligently to get Mr. Abraham-Joseph out of detention while we work with authorities to clear up any misunderstanding," said 21 Savage's attorney Dina LaPolt.
