This is a pretty major week for heavy music. I highly recommend the new Old Man Gloom album (their second of 2020, which I talk more about in Notable Releases), and you can head below for new albums from Cosmic Putrefaction, Cauldron Black Ram, Mountaineer, FALL, and more; and new singles from Bedsore, Kall, Zombi, Trash Talk, The Sword, Enslaved, Voivod, Criminal Instinct, Mantar, and more...

BEDSORE - "THE GATE, CLOSURE (SARCOPTES OBITUS)"

Rome death metallers Bedsore will follow their 2018 demo with their debut album Hypnagogic Hallucinations on July 24 via 20 Buck Spin, and lead single "The Gate, Closure (Sarcoptes Obitus)" is a promising first taste.

KALL - "ELD"

Kall, the band who formed out of the ashes of Swedish depressive black metal vets Lifelover in 2012, are releasing their second album (and first in six years), Brand on June 19 via Prophecy Productions. Their genre-defying new single fuses together black metal, slowcore, grunge, psychedelia, and more, and you can read more about it here.

--

ZOMBI - "BREAKTHROUGH & CONQUER"

Zombi will release their first new album in five years, 2020, on July 17 via Relapse, and first single "Breakthrough & Conquer" finds them giving the Zombi twist to bomastic '80s rock.

--

TRASH TALK - "SOMETHING WICKED" (PROD. KENNY BEATS)

Hardcore band Trash Talk are no strangers to working with hip hop, and hip hop producer Kenny Beats (Rico Nasty, Denzel Curry, Vince Staples, etc) has a very punk mentality and is starting to get directly involved in punk (he's producing the upcoming IDLES album), so they make a perfect pair on "Something Wicked," the rippin' first taste of their upcoming collaborative EP Squalor, due June 5 via Trash Talk's own label (pre-order).

--

THE SWORD - "DAUGHTER OF DAWN"

The Sword's upcoming Chronology 2006-2018 will feature rarities, covers, and more, including this white-hot riffer, which originally appeared as a Japanese bonus track on 2010's Warp Riders.

--

ENSLAVED - "HOMEBOUND"

Norwegian prog/black metal vets Enslaved are releasing their new album Utgard this fall via Nuclear Blast (it was originally due this month, but pushed back due to coronavirus), and today they've released this new rager from it. The song will also come out as 7" single on June 26 with a cover of TNT's "Knights of Thunder" on the flip (pre-order). Read more here.

--

VOIVOD - "THE END OF DORMANCY" (METAL SECTION)

Prog/psych/thrash/sci-fi metal greats Voivod are releasing a new EP, The End Of Dormancy, on July 10 via Century Media, and the EP is "centered around a special 'Metal Section' version of the title track 'The End Of Dormancy' (Off Voivod’s latest album The Wake) with added trumpets, saxophone and trombones. The complementary tracks on this release are exclusive live versions of 'The End Of Dormancy (Metal Section)' and the group’s classic 'The Unknown Knows' recorded at Montreal Jazz Fest 2019."

THIRTY NIGHTS OF VIOLENCE - "MARBLED REGRESSION"

Nashville metalcore bruisers Thirty Nights of Violence are dropping their sophomore EP You'll See Me Up There on June 26 via Unbeaten Records, and here's the loud, brash, pummeling new single.

--

MATTACHINE (mem INFANT ISLAND, BLACK MATTER DEVICE) - "SISYPHUS"

Mattachine is a killer new-ish metalcore band who share members with Infant Island and Black Matter Device, and here's their rager of a new single, which you can read more about here.

--

CRIMINAL INSTINCT - "SKULL FUCKED" & "6 MORE MILES"

Atlanta hardcore beasts Criminal Insinct are back with two new bone-rattlers, one called "Skull Fucked" that clocks in at 36 seconds and another called "6 More Miles" that's a whopping 10 seconds longer. Badass.

--

THE GAY AGENDA - "HOMO RIOT" (ft. THE LOCUST'S JUSTIN PEARSON)

San Diego's self-described "homo riot hardcore punks" The Gay Agenda are releasing their debut album Penetrating in June, and this new single features guest screams by fellow San Diego musician Justin Pearson (of The Locust, Retox, and more). Read more here.

--

MANTAR - "GHOST HIGHWAY" (MAZZY STAR COVER)

German sludge metal duo MANTAR are releasing a '90s covers album, Grungetown Hooligans II, on June 26 via Brutal Panda, and it'll feature takes on songs by L7, The Jesus Lizard, Mazzy Star, Babes In Toyland, Mudhoney, and 7 Year Bitch. The first one released is their cover of "Ghost Highway," a Mazzy Star song that's kind of on the hard rock side to begin with, so it's no surprise that MANTAR pull this one off well.

--

VIRGIN MOTHER (METH) - "TRAFFIC STOP" & "PARASITE"

Virgin Mother is another project of meth.'s Seb Alvarez, and his new album It Is comes out this Friday (5/22). Ahead of its release, he's streaming two appealingly noisy, discordant tracks.

--

WORWS - "UNSURE" & "OBLIVION"

Portland purveyors of vicious metallic hardcore WORWS have a new two-song single "Unsure"/"Oblivion" and it's seriously powerful, ripping stuff. You can stream it early and read an interview with the band over at Idioteq.

--

JAYE JAYLE - "GUNTIME" (PROD. BEN CHISHOLM)

Jaye Jayle, the solo project of Young Widows' Evan Patterson, will release his new album Prisyn on August 7 via Sargent House. He made this one with longtime Chelsea Wolfe collaborator Ben Chisholm, and the first taste is the dark, brooding, Nick Cave-y "Guntime," which apparently is about Evan "having a car full of teenagers point an Uzi at the Jaye Jayle tour van as they drove into Paris." "I thought this was the city of romance / I thought this was where I’d be safe," Evan sings.

--

A.A. WILLIAMS - "MELT"

A.A. Williams has released a new song off her anticipated debut album Forever Blue, and this one finds her blending her usual dark singer/songwriter material with a heavier post-rock side. Great stuff.

--

CORIKY (ex-FUGAZI) - "TOO MANY HUSBANDS"

Coriky, the new band of Ian MacKaye (Fugazi, Minor Threat, The Evens, etc), Joe Lally (Fugazi, The Messthetics, etc), and Amy Farina (The Evens, The Warmers, etc), have given their anticipated debut album a release date and released this great second single. Read more here.

--

FALL - MESSIAHS

Louisville's hardcore/metalcore scene continues to thrive, and this debut LP by FALL is no exception. This thing fucking shreds.

--
