23 New Metal & Hardcore Songs Out This Week

This week has been intense. Donate to a bail fund or other racial justice cause if you can, or make your voice heard some other way. Here’s all the metal and hardcore we posted this week, some of which benefits the fight against racism and police brutality.

Also, some labels selling merchandise and/or test pressings to raise money for racial justice organizations include Triple B Records, Flatspot Records, Run For Cover (and Will Yip), Pure Noise, and Fat Wreck Chords.

ABYSMAL DAWN – “BEWITCHED” (CANDLEMASS COVER)

LA death metallers Abysmal Dawn go into doom territory on this Candlemass cover that they released on a Flexi disc for New Noise Magazine.

UADA – “DJINN”

Portland melodic black metallers Uada are releasing their third album Djinn this September via Eisenwald, and here’s the promising, eight-minute lead single.

SKELETON – “MARK OF DEATH”

Blackened punks Skeleton shared another song off their upcoming self-titled LP, and while the first single was very black metal, this one’s a lot more on their punk side.

SOUL ASYLUM – “NAZI PUNKS FUCK OFF” (DEAD KENNEDYS COVER)

Minneapolis alt-rock vets Soul Asylum have put out a faithful cover of this sadly-still-relevant classic, and encouraged fans to help out in the fight for racial justice. Read what they wrote here and download the cover at the band’s website.

MR. BUNGLE – “USA” (THE EXPLOITED COVER)

Mr. Bungle’s first newly-recorded music in 21 years is this Exploited cover, which benefits COVID-19 relief. Read more here.

MEMBERS OF DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN, GORGUTS & MORE – SLAY AT HOME BENEFIT EP

A handful of recordings from the Slay At Home livestream festival have been released in a charity compilation EP, with all of the proceeds going to Black Lives Matter.

EXECUTIONER’S MASK – “BURY ME A GRAVE”

“Executioner’s Mask is the dark post punk child of three unlikely suspects: Jay Gambit of the noise metal unit Crowhurst providing vocals, Ryan Wilson from the legendary Intestinal Disgorge lending both guitar and drum programming and LACE and Cop Warmth’s Craig Mickle handles even more guitar. Offering a modern take on the classic blueprints set by bands like AFI, The Sisters Of Mercy and Red Lorry, Yellow Lorry.” This is the second single off their upcoming LP for Profound Lore. Proceeds to Black Lives Matter.

INFANT ISLAND – COLLECTIONS 1

Infant Island’s new compilation, Collections 1, is out today, with all proceeds being donated to the Richmond Community Bail Fund “for the time being.”

MATTACHINE – ISOLATION AS A FORM OF TORTURE EP

Infant Island-related queer-metalcore band Mattachine’s EP is also out today and supporting local bail and legal funds. Read our review here.

END – Splinters From An Ever-Changing Face

END — vocalist Brendan Murphy (Counterparts), guitarist Will Putney (of Fit For An Autopsy and producer for Knocked Loose, Vein, Every Time I Die, and tons of other cool bands), guitarist Gregory Thomas (ex-Misery Signals, ex-Shai Hulud), bassist Jay Pepito (Reign Supreme, ex-Blacklisted), and drummer Billy Rymer (ex-The Dillinger Escape Plan) — released their debut album today with profits from purchases from the Closked Casket Activities store going to the ACLU. Will Putney is also doing an ACLU benefit livestream on June 14. Read our review of END’s album here.

MONOLORD – VAENIR INSTRUMENTAL REMIX

Today, Monolord released an exclusive instrumental remix of their 2014 album, Vaenir.

PELICAN – NEW EP BENEFITING COLOR OF CHANGE

Chicago band Pelican have a limited edition, 8-song, digital-only EP of non-album tracks today, with all proceeds being donated to Color of Change. It will only be available for 24 hours.

OLD MAN GLOOM – “WILLING VESSEL” B​/​W “STORMS IN OUR EYES”

Having already released two killer full-length albums this year, Old Man Gloom released two more songs from those sessions to benefit various bail and legal defense fund, and other racial justice organizations.

AARON TURNER – INTERMINABLE CONNIPTION

Aaron Turner (of Isis, Sumac, Old Man Gloom, and more) also has a new EP out to benefit various racial justice and COVID-19 relief causes.

GOATSNAKE – “BREAKFAST WITH THE KING” B​/​W “DEATHWISH”

Stoner metal vets Goatsnake put out two previously unreleased tracks to benefit Color of Change.

PYRRHON – “RAT KING LIFECYCLE”

New York death metal oddballs Pyrrhon released the eight-minute closer off their upcoming album Abscess Time. Vocalist Doug Moore says, “The police hide their identities and cower behind shields and armor because they’re scared of losing their grip, and they should be. ‘Rat King Lifecycle’ is about posturing, coddled bullies like them getting what’s coming to them – an awful, gasping death, like they’ve inflicted on so many others.” Bandcamp proceeds go to Campaign Zero.

SPEED – “A DUMB DOG GETS FLOGGED”

Australian hardcore band SPEED signed to Flatspot Records for their new 7″, and here’s the first song from it. They’re donating 50% of webstore profits to The Bail Project and 50% to Sisters Inside. Read more here.

LOW ESTATE (mem ORCHID, RED SPARROWES, etc) – “SERVANTS OF PROGRESS, SLAVES TO FEAR”

Low Estate — whose lineup Geoff Garlock (Orchid, Panthers, The Year Is One), Jimmy Hubbard (The Year is One), Brendan Tobin (Made Out Of Babies, Red Sparowes, Bad Powers) and Christopher Todd (Sannhet) — have followed their 2017, Flenser-released debut album Covert Cult of Death with this absolutely nasty, genuinely awesome new single.

STEVE VON TILL – “SHADOWS ON THE RUN”

Neurosis’ Steve Von Till has released another hauntingly dark, cello-fueled song from his anticipated new solo album No Wilderness Deep Enough. It comes with a video made by former Neurosis visual artist Josh Graham.

RAIN OF SALVATION – IN TIMES OF DESPERATION

Now is definitely a time of desperation, which makes now a very good time to hear loud, angry, cathartic hardcore like this. And Rain of Salvation are donating all revenue to good causes too. The band writes, “All revenue made from this record will be donated to The Liberty Fund, Reclaim The Block and the Louisville Bail Fund, we implore all of our fans to take a second out of their day and fully educate themselves on what has been going on in the world right now. We urge you to donate, protest and use your voice to fight against injustice. Black Lives Matter.”

GATHERERS – “MASSALETTE”

Rising NJ post-hardcore band Gatherers have a new LP for No Sleep on the way, and they just released this new single. 100% of proceeds are going directly to George Floyd, The Bail Project, Black Visions Collective, Facing History and Reclaim the Block. Fans of Glassjaw, Quicksand, Deftones, take note.
