So many artists, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, show recaps, track premieres, and more all day. That includes livestream announcements and archives and daily roundups of some of our favorite live concert videos. We publish a monthly playlist of some of our favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place…

INVENTIONS - "CONTINUOUS PORTRAIT"

POTTERY - "HOT HEATER"

Here's a jagged new single from Montreal band Pottery's upcoming debut album, Welcome to Bobby's Motel, which is out in June. It goes from a rigid start into something decidedly more funky. "While there are hints of environmental themes on this one, we mainly wanted to make a disco song with a robotic feeling, something that could be easily chanted," say Pottery. "Austin was originally really interested in heat as a musical concept/feeling - some of the early album titles we threw around were ‘Hot Hot Hot’ and ‘Sun Fever’ - and there are a bunch of other heat references on the album [see previous single 'Hot Like Jungle']. In the studio he’d be joking around and yelling stuff at us like ‘let’s make it hot!’ right before a take. A lot of that didn’t end up totally sinking in, but some did...like on this song."

JOE WONG - "DREAMS WASH AWAY" FT. MARY TIMONY, ANNA WARONKER, MARY LATTIMORE

BLUE NOISE - WORLD OF HARM

--

OHMME - "SELLING CANDY"

Chicago due Ohmme have shared another track from their new album,
Fantasize Your Ghost. "Selling Candy" almost sounds like it could've been from Hair -- big, anthemic and full of soaring vocals. But the arty bent of Ohmme keeps it out of stage musical territory (though maybe Ohmme could write one).

--

KATIE VON SCHLEICHER - "BRUTALITY"

Katie Von Schleicher’s new album, Consummation, is out May 22 via Ba Da Bing. The album was inspired by Alfred Hitchcock's classic obsession thriller, Vertigo, as well as Rebecca Solnit’s searing critique on the film. The first single is the spiraliing, consuming "Brutality."

--

Listen to them both over at Aquarium Drunkard.

--

JADE HAIRPINS - "DOLLY DREAM"

Jade Hairpins, aka Johan and Mike of Fucked Up, will release thier debut album, Harmony Avenue, on May 29. Here's another track from it, a groovy bit of rock that Jonah and Mike says "is about searching—not necessarily something you lack and have to ‘find,’ but grabbing hold of that ‘something’ you’ve always had."

--

NICK HAKIM - "BOUNCING"

"BOUNCING" is a sound bath where I wrote about one of the coldest days in New York I remember, while lying in my bed, restless by a radiator. It's about feeling uneasy." Nick's new album, Will This Make Me Good, is out this Friday.

--

ADVERTISEMENT - "PRETTY MONEY"

Seattle band Advertisement will release their debut album, American Advertisement, on July 10 via Patchwork Fantasy. First single is "Pretty Money" which plays off a glammy riff but keeps things dark. “Lyrically, it’s tongue in cheek, anxious, Marxist-cosplay pastiche,” say the band.. “For some, money is the sweet, vague cherry on top of life, for others it’s a voucher for rent and eggs and dry pasta and nothing else. The song is meant less as a self-righteous sermon on capitalism’s cruelty, and more as a setting of the scene for something prettier.”

THE BETHS - "I'M NOT GETTING EXCITED"

“People always ask ‘are you excited!?’ and it's a fair question, because exciting things do happen to us sometimes,” says Elizabeth Stokes, frontwoman and songwriter for New Zealand's Beths, of the band's new single. “Support slots, overseas tours, music releases. Stuff we've dreamed about for years. So the correct answer is always ‘yes.’ But the truth is that deep down there's a tiny Liz saying, ‘don't get excited.’ She is certain that anything good that could happen will most likely not happen, because of a freak accident. Or because somebody finally realises that we aren't worthy, shouts ‘phony!’ and takes everything away. I wrote 'I'm Not Getting Excited' last year, well before everything really did get taken away. From everyone. It feels like the song has a new context, but we don't know what it is yet. And now we all share a blurry, uncertain future.” The Beths' sophomore album, Jump Rope Gazers, is out July 10 on Carpark.
