25 New Metal Songs Out This Week
Two of the year's most anticipated metal albums, Wear Your Wounds and Torche (both of which are really more "heavy rock" than metal), are out today, and I reviewed both in Notable Releases. You can also catch up on new albums from False, Disentomb, Batushka (Bartek's version), and more over at Invisible Oranges' Upcoming Metal Releases. This week also gave us new singles from Mizmor, Obituary, 1349, Opeth, Exhorder, Portrayal of Guilt, Enforced, Cliterati, Zonal, Tomb Mold, and more. Read on for all the metal we posted on BV this week...
MIZMOR - "DESERT OF ABSURDITY"
One-man black metal band Mizmor (aka מזמור) is following 2016's Yodh with the new album Cairn on September 6th via Gilead Media, and first single "Desert of Absurdity" is out now. It's a lengthy, ten-minute burner that treks through acoustic guitars, blackened intensity, lumbering sludge/doom, and more, before wrapping up on a quiet, eerie note.

1349 - "THROUGH EYES OF STONE"
Norwegian black metal greats 1349 released the Dødskamp EP earlier this year, and now they're gearing up to release a new full-length album this fall. First, they'll put out a new 10" single with the new song "Through the Eyes of Stone" and a live recording of "Riders of the Apocalypse" from their 2003 debut album Liberation, recorded in Tokyo. "Through the Eyes of Stone" is out now, and it's a real bulldozer that's getting us excited for the new album. The 10" drops August 16th via Season of Mist and it will be available at their upcoming Florida shows with Cloak and at Psycho Las Vegas.

--
CLITERATI - "LATINX TAKEN"
Oregon hardcore band Cliterati are releasing their new album Ugly Truths / Beautiful Lies on August 30 via Tankcrimes, and new single "Latinx Taken" is out now. As you might have guessed from the band name and the song name, it's very political and very of the moment. It's also a ripper. Vocalist Ami Lawless says, "My mom would have been considered illegal/undocumented. I'll never understand this reference to other human beings. A good portion of this country was once Mexico and now people whose ancestors walked and worked this land are not welcome here... and those in power will use us for whatever they can. No one is illegal."

PRURIENT - GARDEN OF THE MUTILATED PARATROOPERS
Noise great Prurient is back with Garden Of The Mutilated Paratroopers, a "limited 2x FAN CD EP of Airborne Electronics for the 75th anniversary of Screaming Eagles Radio and 82nd Neptune Death Row. Adrenaline drones, memorial distortion, windy feedback, loud speaker vocals with a heavy influence from the naked and neither fact-nor-fiction black humor drama forgotten style of Aquifer Sodality and Slaughter Productions."
--
ZONAL (GODFLESH, THE BUG) - "CAGE VERSION" & "NO VERSION"
Zonal, the current collaborative proejct of Justin Broadrick (Godflesh) and Kevin Martin (The Bug) — who previously collaborated under the name Techno Animal — have signed to Relapse Records and will release a new full-length album on the label this fall. --
TOMB MOLD - "PLANETARY CLAIRVOYANCE (THEY GROW INSIDE PT. 2)
Tomb Mold have shared the sorta-title track off their anticipated new album Planetary Clairvoyance. The song initially came out in a slightly different form on a two-song single last year, but the new version chops the ambient intro and outro and sounds just a bit more polished up (in a good way).
--
WRECK AND REFERENCE - "WHAT GOES IN AND COMES OUT"
Boundary-pushing, genre-defying heavy duo Wreck and Reference will release their fourth album Absolute Still Life on July 19 via The Flenser, and new single "What Goes In and Comes Out" is streaming now. It's as creepy and unsettling as you'd hope for from this band.
--
COARSE - "THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK VS. COARSE"
Coarse is the collaborative project of Ryan Knowles (ex-Capsize) and Brandon Gallagher (ex-Old Wounds), and they're releasing the Cut and Preserved EP on August 23 via 6131. It includes remixes of three songs from their 2018 EP I, featuring members of The Armed, Street Sects, and Hash Gordon, and it also includes the new song "The People of the State of New York vs. Coarse." It's a filthy dose of dissonant, brutal hardcore, and very worth hearing.
--
LEEWAY NYC - "MESSAGE TO A MANCHILD" & "I'M YOUR PUSHER"
Leeway NYC (the current name of the current lineup of veteran NYC crossover band Leeway, featuring only vocalist Eddie Sutton from the classic lineup) are back with a new 7" single. If you purchase it, you get instant downloads of "Message To A Manchild" and "I'm Your Pusher," and if you don't, you can still hear the latter.
--
DEATH BEFORE DISHONOR - "TRUE DEFEAT"

--
DEVOURMENT - "NARCISSISTIC PARAPHILIA"
Devourment have shared another single from their first album in six years, Obscene Majesty (due 8/16 via Relapse), and it's another slam-inducing dose of brutality.
--
IN COLD BLOOD - "NO MORE LIES"
Cleveland hardcore vets In Cold Blood (who have former members of Integrity) are releasing their new album, Legion of Angels, on August 23 via Fast Break! Records, and the first single is "No More Lies." "Musically, [it's] probably the most ambitious song on the record," guitarist/vocalist Blaze Tishko tells Revolver. "Drawing from At the Gates and Integrity, with a bridge that resembles something that is so off the wall I'm not even sure where it came from. When our producer and engineer Bill Korecky first heard it, he described the bridge as something that reminded him of William Wallace triumphing over bloodied bodies in a field in the hills of Scotland. The lyrics were inspired by an ex-friend who had spend the better part of his life lying to all of us about his intentions with our music." That bridge really is something, as you can hear for yourself right here:
