Vile Creature

29 New Metal & Hardcore Songs Out This Week

It’s been a pretty great week for metal, hardcore, and metal-adjacent music, with new albums from The Black Dahlia Murder, Oranssi Pazuzu, Hexvessel, and Infant Island, all four of which I wrote about in Notable Releases. You can also head to Invisible Oranges’ Upcoming Metal Releases to read about the new Khemmis, Ripped to Shreds, Abysmal Dawn, and more. We also embedded a couple other new full-lengths below, alongside new singles from Umbra Vitae (Converge’s J Bannon), Vile Creature, The Acacia Strain, Masterpiece Machine (Power Trip, Fucked Up), Kall, -(16)-, Oathbreaker (Chelsea Wolfe remix), and much more…

UMBRA VITAE – “MANTRA OF MADNESS”

Converge frontman J Bannon has shared another song by his new death metal-inspired band Umbra Vitae, and you can read more about it here.

VILE CREATURE – “YOU WHO HAS NEVER SLEPT”

Canadian black/sludge two-piece Vile Creature will release their new LP Glory, Glory! Apathy Took Helm! on June 19 via Prosthetic, and here’s the — ahem — vile new single.

THE ACACIA STRAIN – “CROSSGATES” & “I BREATHED IN THE SMOKE DEEPLY IT TASTED LIKE DEATH AND I SMILED” (ft. ZACH HATFIELD OF LEFT BEHIND)

The Acacia Strain continue their trend of releasing a two-song single, including a song featuring guest vocals from a member of a rising hardcore band, and this time they teamed up with Zach from Left Behind for the atmospheric “I breathed in the smoke deeply it tasted like death and I smiled.”

HAVOK – “FEAR CAMPAIGN”

Thrash revivalists Havok have unleashed another taste of V, and this one’s especially old school sounding.

CRO-MAGS – “THE FINAL TEST”

Cro-Mags recently released a download (in exchange for a social media follow) of their new song “The Final Test,” and now it’s streaming for anyone to hear.

MASTERPIECE MACHINE (POWER TRIP, FUCKED UP) – “LETTING YOU IN ON A SECRET”

Masterpiece Machine — aka Power Trip frontman Riley Gale and Fucked Up members Jonah Falco (also of Career Suicide) and Mike Haliechuk — released their second new song, and you can read about it here.

INFANT ISLAND – “STARE SPELLS”

Virginia screamo up and comers Infant Island released a surprise mini-LP today and this killer new single from their upcoming sophomore album Beneath. Read more about both here.

AN AUTUMN FOR CRIPPLED CHILDREN – “WATER’S EDGE”

Netherlands shoegazy black metallers An Autumn For Crippled Children will release their new album All Fell Silent, Everything Went Quiet on May 1 via Prosthetic, and you can read more about new single “Water’s Edge” here.

KALL – “RISE”

Swedish depressive black metallers Kall formed out of the ashes of Lifelover back in 2012, and now they’re set to release their second album (and first in six years), Brand, on June 19 via Prophecy Productions. First single “Rise” is pretty great stuff.

-(16)- – “CANDY IN SPANISH”

San Diego sludge vets -(16)- will follow their very solid 2016 album Lifespan of a Moth with a new LP, Dream Squasher, on June 5 via Relapse. The first single is opening track “Candy In Spanish,” and it’s got all the white-hot intensity you’d expect from this band.

OATHBREAKER – “EASE ME” (CHELSEA WOLFE REMIX)

You’ve already heard the Jesu remix off Oathbreaker’s upcoming “Ease Me” remix EP, and here’s a noisy rework of the song by Chelsea Wolfe.

GREEN CARNATION – “MY DARK REFLECTIONS OF LIFE AND DEATH”

As mentioned, Norwegian prog metal vets Green Carnation will release their first album in 14 years, Leaves of Yesteryear, on May 8 via Season of Mist. It’ll include a re-recording of their 18-minute 2000 song “My Dark Reflections Of Life And Death” and seven minutes and 45 seconds of that re-recording can be heard now. The band is also playing a ticketed, livestreamed album release show on May 23 at 8 AM ET.

PERFECT WORLD – “MY TIME RUNS OUT”

NYHC up and comers Perfect World are releasing their debut LP War Culture this summer, and going by the sound of the ass-whipping “My Time Runs Out,” you’re gonna wanna keep your ears peeled for this one.

L.O.T.I.O.N. MULTINATIONAL CORPORATION – “ALPHABRAIN” & “WAR GAMES”

Hardcore, industrial, and lots of sonic filth come together on L.O.T.I.O.N. Multinational Corporation’s new two-song single for Sub Pop.

CAULDRON BLACK RAM – “WHORE TO WAR”

Australian black/sludge/death metallers Cauldron Black Ram (who share members with Mournful Congregation and Stargazer) are releasing their first full-length in six years, Slaver, on May 22 via 20 Buck Spin, and first single “Whore To War” is dripping with genuine filth.

IN THE COMPANY OF SERPENTS – “SCALES OF MAAT” (ft. PRIMITIVE MAN & KHEMMIS members)

Denver doom/sludge metallers In The Company of Serpents have a new song with guest vocals from members of Primitive Man and Khemmis. Read more here.

SPOTLIGHTS – “ALL I NEED” (RADIOHEAD COVER)

Brooklyn heavy shoegazers Spotlights are planning to release a series of covers during quarantine, and the first one is this hazy take on Radiohead’s In Rainbows classic “All I Need.”

TOMBS – “DECEIVER” (LIVE IN CHICAGO, 6/27/19)

With no live shows happening, live albums feel like a bigger deal than ever, so it’s good news that Tombs have a new four-track live record coming. Abraxas Ritual: Live in Chicago was recorded on 6/17/2019 at Chicago’s Livewire Lounge during Tombs’ tour with Chrome Waves, and you can hear opening track “Deceiver” now.

INTEGRITY – LIVE AT NORTHWEST TERROR FEST 2018

Here’s another live album to help out in these concert-less times. This one’s from metallic hardcore legends Integrity, whose guitarist Justin “Sexman” Ethem wrote a very funny screed to accompany this release, which you can read here.

RULE THEM ALL – LIVE ON WNYU CRUCIAL CHAOS

Here’s yet another (sort of) live album. LIHC up and comers Rule Them All recorded this live-in-studio session for WNYU in January, about a month after they released their killer Dreams About… EP.

PELICAN – LIVE AT THE GROG SHOP

And this one from Pelican.

PROTEST THE HERO – “THE CANARY”

Tech-y, proggy post-hardcore vets Protest the Hero will release their first album in seven years, Palimpsest, on June 19 via Spinefarm, and lead single “The Canary” is as all over the place as you’d expect from this band.

FAKE NAMES – “FIRST EVERLASTING”

Here’s the second single by punk supergroup Fake Names (Refused, Bad Religion, Dag Nasty, Embrace, etc), which you can read more about here.

FIELD DAY (ex-DAG NASTY) – “SEARCHING FOR THE ANSWERS”

Field Day is a band featuring vocalist Peter Cortner and bassist Doug Carrion from Dag Nasty’s Wig Out at Denko’s and Field Day lineup, and after originally forming to play songs from that era live, they’ve now released a new single, “Searching for the Answers.” It basically sounds like classic Dag Nasty, and that’s not a bad thing at all. It’ll come out, alongside “We Are The Change,” on a new 7″ called 2.0 on June 5 via Unity Worldwide Records (pre-order).

VILE SPIRIT – SCORCHED EARTH

UK metallic hardcore crew Vile Spirit dropped their gnarly debut LP on Quality Control HQ today.

FUSE – THIS SEGREGATION WILL END

Here’s another killer LP on Quality Control HQ, this one from Singapore’s Fuse.

FUNERAL LEECH – DEATH MEDITATION

Don’t sleep on the latest from NYC death doomers Funeral Leech.
