’30 Rock’ returning for new hour-long special in July
30 Rock is coming back for a one-off special on July 16, Variety reports, featuring Tina Fey, Alec Baldwin, Tracy Morgan, Jane Krakowski, Jack McBrayer and more. The actors were all shot remotely, perhaps like the Parks & Recreation reunion special from earlier this year. “We’re all happy to have this excuse to (remotely) work together again for NBC,” said Fey and 30 Rock co-creator Robert Carlock in a joint statement. “To quote Kenneth the Page, there are only two things we love in this world, television and everyone.”
In true 30 Rock "synergy" style, the special will double as a network preview for NBC's 2020-2021 slate of programming which includes Fey & Carlock's new series, Mr Mayor which stars Ted Danson, Holly Hunter and Bobby Moynihan and is set to premiere mid-season in 2021.
The hour-long, "commercial-free" event (not counting that it's a giant commercial for NBC's new shows) will first premiere on NBC on Thursday, July 16 at 8 PM, but will then be rebroadcast across other NBC/Universal networks, including USA, Bravo, E!, Oxygen, SYFY, and CNBC on July 7 at 9 PM. The special will also be available on NBC/Universal's new streaming service, The Peacock, on July 17, which is two days after the service is set to premiere.
30 Rock ran for seven seasons from October 2006 to January 2013 and won three consecutive Best Comedy Emmys. It will be available to stream on The Peacock when it launches. Watch a few clips below.
