43 New Songs Out Today

So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.

ANTELOPER – “ONE LIVING GENUS”

Anteloper, the experimental duo of jaimie branch and Jason Nazary, will release their new album Pink Dolphins on June 17 via International Anthem. Both members have backgrounds in jazz, but the 15-minute lead single “One Living Genus” is more of a trip through electronic psychedelia, sounding closer to something like Silver Apples.

CLAYPOOL, HÜTZ, COPELAND, LENNON, RYABTSEV, & STRINGS – “ZELENSKY: THE MAN WITH THE IRON BALLS”

Primus’ Les Claypool, Gogol Bordello’s Eugene Hutz, Police drummer Stewart Copeland, Sean Lennon, Billy Strings and violinist Sergey Ryabtsev have come together to make this tribute to Ukraine president Volodymyr Zelensky. “As soon as Russian aggression broke out, Les and I connected to address the catastrophe ASAP,” Hutz told Rolling Stone. “We jumped on creating affirmative music that calls for unity and pays respect to the real doers in Ukrainian defense, such as President Zelensky, who demonstrated previously unheard of stamina and heroism.”

STATIC DRESS – “FLEAHOUSE”

UK post-hardcore/metalcore band Static Dress’s long-awaited debut album Rouge Carpet Disaster finally arrives next month, and here’s another great taste that’ll take you right back to stuff like They’re Only Chasing Safety.

YAYA BEY – “ALRIGHT”

Brooklyn R&B singer Yaya Bey has shared another song off her upcoming album Remember Your North Star, and this one’s got kind of a psychedelic neo-soul vibe. It comes with a video that Yaya calls “a visual representation of me coming through an existential crisis.”

ALL GET OUT – “SUMTER”

All Get Out have announced a new album, Kodak, due June 3 via Equal Vision. It features recent singles “Feeling Well” and “DFR,” as well as the just-released “Sumter,” a jangly indie rock song inspired by frontman Nathan Hussey’s mother’s temporary memory loss.

BANDAID BRIGADE (PEARS) – “HIT THE BUCK”

Bandaid Brigade is the new project of Zach Quinn (PEARS) and Brian Wahlstrom (Scorpios, Gods of Mount Olympus), and they’ve just signed to Xtra Mile Recordings (Frank Turner, Against Me!, etc) for their upcoming album. The first single is “Hit The Buck,” a nervy punk song that fans of the members’ other projects should definitely dig.

A VULTURE WAKE (ex-ALL) – “RED”

A Vulture Wake is the current band fronted by Chad Price, who fronted Descendents offshoot ALL in the ’90s and the alt-country band Drag The River after that, and their upcoming EP Kingdom comes out June 10 via Thousand Island Records. Lead single “Red” is a catchy, melodic punk song that’s not all too different from what Chad was doing with ALL two and a half decades ago.

PAUL BENDER (HIATUS KAIYOTE) – “SUMMER FOOL”

Hiatus Kaiyote’s Paul Bender will release a solo LP, How To Forget, on May 24 via Dreamlike International Visions, and you can hear the bossa nova-tinged lead single now.

YAWNERS – “HONEY”

Here’s the third single of Spanish band Yawners’ upcoming LP Duplo (due 5/6 via Big Scary Monsters), and this one finds them offering up breezy, power-poppy, ’90s-style punk.

ROGER HARVEY – “LAST PRISONER” & “WEIRD HILL TO DIE ON”

Roger Harvey has released a new single for 4/20, “Last Prisoner,” and it’s a gorgeous alt-country song that “focuses on the continued harms caused by decades of cannabis prohibition in this ever-changing America.” It also features Willie Nelson’s longtime harmonica player Mickey Raphael, who Roger calls one of his heroes. The B-side is a new version of “Weird Hill To Die On,” which Roger originally released last year in response to the Capitol riot.

VIEUX FARKA TOURÉ – “FLANY KONARE”

Acclaimed Malian guitarist Vieux Farka Touré (son of Ali Farka Touré) releases his new album Les Racines on June 10 via World Circuit Records, and here’s the hypnotic new single “Flany Konare.”

SPIRIT ADRIFT – “SORCERER’S FATE”

Spirit Adrift will release 20 Centuries Gone on August 19 via Century Media, featuring two original songs plus covers of Metallica, Type O Negative, Thin Lizzy, Pantera, ZZ Top, and Lynyrd Skynyrd. One of the original tracks is “Sorcerer’s Fate,” a song that definitely pulls some clear influence from at least a couple of those bands.

BATTS – “BLUE” FT. SHARON VAN ETTEN

BATTS, aka Melbourne singer and songwriter Tanya Batt, duets with Sharon Van Etten on her first new single since 2020, “Blue.” “I was in the depths of grief at the time,” BATTS says. “When ‘Blue’ started to write itself, it clearly reflected how I was feeling. Sharon sent her verse over and the first time I listened to it was such a moment. She just got it, the lyrics were perfectly in keeping with it all. She absolutely completed it. It holds a very special place in my heart. It’s a huge honour to write and create with Sharon someone who has carved such a powerful path in this industry and remains so kind and humble. A truly special human.”

BRONZE – “PEOPLE WATCHING PEOPLE”

Bronze have been keeping San Francisco strange since the mid-’00s and have stuck it out, continuing to put tech bros on edge, after much of the scene fled the city in the last decade. “People Watching People” is the ominous new single from the band’s Castle Face debut.

ANN WILSON – “LOVE OF MY LIFE” (QUEEN COVER ft. VINCE GILL)

Heart’s Ann Wilson has one of the greatest voices in classic rock, and she’s also really good at singing other classic rock bands’ songs, like Heart’s great “Stairway to Heaven” cover and this new rendition of Queen’s “Love of My Life,” for which she duets with Vince Gill. It’ll appear on Ann’s new solo album Fierce Bliss, which arrives next week.

BOG BODY – “DREGS SOAR TO THE SKIES”

Bog Body have shared another song off their upcoming LP Cryonic Crevasse Cult (due 5/20 via Profound Lore), and like the previous single, it’s some of the swampiest, murkiest metal you’ll hear this year.

NAMIR BLADE – “RIDE”

Nashville rapper/singer Namir Blade has announced a new self-produced album, Metropolis, due June 3 via Mello Music Group. The first single is “Ride,” which finds him bouncing back and forth between singing and rapping over a smooth instrumental.

TSVI & LORAINE JAMES – “OBSERVE” & “TRUST”

London electronic musicians TSVI and Loraine James have announced a collaborative EP, 053, due May 13 via AD93. Two songs are out now; “Observe” combines glitchy rhythms with gorgeously swelling melodies, and “Trust” is more in ambient territory.

Dan Bejar is also on one track from Fresh Pepper’s debut album which is out June 17 via Telephone Explosion. The first single is “Congee All Around Me,” which doles out food metaphors like ladlefuls of rice porridge.

EDITORS (BLANCK MASS NOW IN THE BAND) – “HEART ATTACK”

Long-running British group Editors have announced that Blanck Mass (ex Fuck Buttons member Benjamin John Power) has joined the group after having worked with them on their last album, Violence. The first fruits of this pairing is “Heart Attack,” a dark-n-synthy track featuring an animated video made using AI software.

RICH AUCOIN – “TONTO”

Montreal musician Rich Aucoin made his new single using the legendary TONTO synthesizer that’s currently housed in Calgary at the National Music Centre and was the first and largest multitimbral polyphonic analog synthesizer in the world. Rich recorded over three hours of music which he then cut down, cutting it apart and rearranging it into the six-minute track we have here. “It’s a powerful synth that’s like the Voltron of synths,” Rich says.

SOPHIE MEIERS – “THINGS WILL CHANGE”

“This song is really vulnerable and painful, but I hope that some beauty and healing can come out of the dark subject matter,” sophie meiers says of their new single “things will change.” “This song is about watching someone you love turn into somebody you don’t know anymore. It is a letter to one of my little brothers who has struggled with addiction for a long time. Incredibly complicated and very sensitive to me, because this is a letter from me now, to him now. With that said, I have thick skin, a trauma-acquired-sense of humor, and the strong feeling that if this message is important to me it is also important to a lot of other people. It is a uniquely heartbreaking experience to want to help somebody you love so badly, and feeling that knock-your-wind-out sickness in your stomach thinking about how completely powerless you are. Thematically, I’d say it is definitely centered around this powerless feeling, but at the same time, a feeling of acceptance. It’s about fucking childhood together and being best friends and playing in forests and having to grow up. And watch each other change. There is still that note of hope, and extreme amounts of unconditional love, and I’m realizing that I just have to take things as they come. Our lives aren’t the way they used to be and that’s okay. We aren’t the same people we used to be and that’s okay. This is the new normal, and all I can do is give as much love and support as I can and trust that things will change.”

THE SMILE – “FREE IN THE KNOWLEDGE”

After sharing a few singles, The Smile, the trio of Radiohead’s Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood plus Sons of Kemet’s Tom Skinner, have now announced their debut album. It’s titled A Light for Attracting Attention and will be out May 13 via XL. With the news comes another good song.

VIAGRA BOYS – “AIN’T NO THIEF”

You may have heard Viagra Boys’ “Ain’t No Thief” on their current North American tour, and now you can hear the studio version which is the first single from new album Cave World. It’s a near industrial banger and comes with a typically wild video directed by SNASK.

THE WAEVE (GRAHAM COXON & ROSE ELINOR DOUGALL) – “HERE COMES THE WAEVE”

Blur guitarist Graham Coxon and Rose Elinor Dougall have formed a new duo called The WAEVE. They’ve shared a short piece of music with a promise of more to come.

It’s nearly eight minutes long, and it finds the Pittsburgh emo musicians diving fully into Sleep/Electric Wizard territory (including a riff that’s almost exactly “A National Acrobat” by Black Sabbath). Fun!

Lou roy’s new album Pure Chaos, which she co-produced with illuminati hotties’ Sarah Tudzin, is out on April 29 via Balloon Machine, and in honor of 4/20 she’s shared new single “U.D.I.D.” “‘U.D.I.D. started as a whisper over a finger-picked acoustic guitar part, high up on the neck with a capo in an alternate tuning,” Lou says. “I had just had a phone call with a person I love that left me heartbroken, and I confessed to myself and my dog that maybe that phone call was the final straw, maybe I do have to really say bye to them. So I got high and put on Hellraiser (for the second time that evening..idk what was going on there) and decided to try on what it would be like to really just give up on them. It’s the only point on the record where I actually can’t find the humour or optimism present in other songs. When it comes to my love for this person, who can’t quite meet me halfway, I am not wise or funny or clever. I am nervous and pissed. The chorus lyrics, ‘I always want you near, but I’m starting to get the deal, if u don’t dare I don’t dare’ are admittedly words I’d rather not say. And honestly, it’s an empty threat anyways, because the truth is I will always take that dare, I’ll always want to try.”
