80+ special/exclusive releases for today’s Bandcamp fundraiser

As they’ve done twice before, online music retailer Bandcamp is waiving their cut of the proceeds from all purchases made on their platform today, June 5. Likewise, one again artists and labels are using this opportunity to put out special, Bandcamp-exclusive digital tracks, physical releases, and merch. Bandcamp made a list of special items available but there is much more than that. Here are the notable ones we’ve seen. Around 13% of them are Sonic Youth related.

Additionally, given the anti-police-brutality protests going on around the world in the wake of George Floyd’s death at the hands of the Minneapolis police, many labels and artists are also donating profits to Black Lives Matter and other similar causes.

Cloakroom members – OUTSIDE DOGS V.I

This is a compilation of home recordings that members of Cloakroom have “accumulated and enjoyed over the years,” with proceeds going to The Bail Project.

Braid – B​-​Sides and Demos From No Coast

Emo vets Braid released b-sides and demos from their 2014 reunion album No Coast.

Mr. Bungle – “USA” (The Exploited cover)

Mr. Bungle’s first newly-recorded music in 21 years is this Exploited cover, which benefits COVID-19 relief. Read more here.

Algiers – 7″ Let the Sub_Bass Speak b/w We Need Some Discipline Here (previously unreleased)

Algiers have a new 7″ with all of the proceeds going to Metro Atlanta Mutual Aid Fund, As They Lay, Black Alliance for Just Immigration, and Communities United for Police Reform. The single includes two tracks, “Let the Sub_Bass Speak” and “We Need Some Discipline Here” (previously unreleased). Note that the physical record will only be available for 24 hours, but the tracks will stay online indefinitely.

Bayonet Records- Curve it in Peace comp / Beach Fossils exclusives

Bayonet, the label started by Beach Fossils’ Dustin Payseur, have a new compilation, Curve it in Peace, that features new tracks from Beach Fossils, Yuele, Lionlimb, and more. In solidarity with protestors, the label’s cut of the profits made off this compilation will be donated to Black Visions Collective and Reclaim the Block. Meanwhile, in celebration of the 10-year anniversary of Beach Fossils’ debut self-titled record, it is being produced on a limited edition green splatter vinyl and you can find that on Bandcamp too.

The Black Midi Anthology Vol. 1: Tales of Suspense and Revenge

Black Midi describe this as “4 short stories accompanied by jams that have been edited to accommodate each story. Instrumental mixes are also included.”

Bonny Doon – Blue Sessions

The mellow Michigan band is donating all proceeds from sales of this new compilation to Black Lives Matter Detroit. “Stay safe and move with love,” they said in a tweet. Purchase it HERE.

The Clientele – “Closer”

UK group The Clientele are back with this cover of Shack’s “Closer.” All proceeds from this song for the next year will go to Black Lives Matter.

Comedy Minus One – Exclusives from Silkworm and Mint Mile

Indie label Comedy Minus One is offering a variety of exclusives, including a previously unreleased live set from Silkworm (recorded in 1994 at Empty Bottle) and a new track from Mint Mile to benefit Lincoln Square Friendship Center in Chicago, which “fosters hope and dignity through access to food, vital resources, and critical social services.”

CORPUS – MUTUAL AID

NYC collective COPRUS released part one of their two-part Mutual Aid EP, and the second part comes out in time for the next Bandcamp First Friday, July 1. A song from each is streaming now. The collective writes, “AS OF FRIDAY JUNE 5 THE CORPUS FAMILY MUTUAL AID FUND WILL ONLY BE ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FROM BLACK ARTISTS AND BLACK PEOPLE CREATING, PARTICIPATING IN, AND SUPPORTING THE NYC MUSIC COMMUNITY, AND BLACK, BROWN AND INDIGENOUS ORGANIZERS. Members of Dillinger Escape Plan, Gorguts & more – Slay At Home Benefit EP

A handful of recordings from the Slay At Home livestream festival have been released in a charity compilation EP, with all of the proceeds going to Black Lives Matter.

Executioner’s Mask – “Bury Me A Grave”

Fire Records has three releases today: new name-your-price sampler ‘Auteur Research,’ an exclusive digital EP from Islet; and the exclusive pre-order of a reissue of Giant Sand’s 1991 album, Ramp.

Flochango & the Moneyshots – “For George Floyd”

Flochango & the Moneyshots released a new pay-what-you-want single, “For George Floyd,” today. Any proceeds will be donated to the Minnesota Freedom Fund, which assists individuals who are unable to pay bail with funding.

Chris Forsyth – 4 new digital recordings

Today, Chris Forsyth released 4 newly mixed/previously digitally unavailable recordings (three from the studio, and one live from the Solar Motel). This includes covers of “Woodpiles On The Side of The Road,” “Alice in Blunderland,” “When You Smile,” and “Barstool Blues.” Proceeds made from the will benefit Black Lives Matter Philadelphia, the People’s Paper Co-Op, and the Philadelphia Bail Fund.

Fruit Bats – Found a Round Stone

Found a Round Stone features 24 songs recorded live at Revolution Hall in Portland, OR on January 19, 2019. 100% of proceeds from this album are going to Black Futures Lab.

Halo Maud – Dans La Nuit REWORKS EP

Parisian psych artist Halo Maud offers up this EP’s worth of alternate versions of “Dans La Nuit,” and she’s donating all proceeds from digital sales (EPs and album) to Licra, a French association fighting against racism and discriminations through victim assistance and education.

Helio Sequence – Acoustic Live at the Triple Door

Say the band: “In making the acoustic set we learned a new way of looking at our songs. We used different keys, new chord voicings, alternate tunings and a wide range of percussion. Songs that we had known and played for years took on a new life and we were excited about the prospect of sharing them with more people. In early 2015, when we finished up recording our new album, we jumped on the opportunity to put together a special acoustic eve at The Triple Door.”

Kanine Records – Offering In-Person Delivery to NY Residents

Kanine Records is now offering next-day, contactless bicycle delivery of all physical purchases (LP, CD, CS, Tshirt, etc) to residences in Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, and other NY neighborhoods for Bandcamp purchases. “No longer will you have to wait on the post office, worry about your package getting lost, or your records being bent in the shipping process,” they said in a post on Twitter.

Katy J Pearson – Covers and Others

Katy J Pearson offers up an EP of covers of songs by Townes Van Zandt, Glen Campbell, Buffalo Springfield, The Velvet Underground. All proceeds go to SARI, the Bristol based charity standing against racism and inequality in the area.

Laurel Halo – World Without Heroes

“‘World Without Heroes’ is a suite of seven passages from Ursula K. Le Guin’s translation of the Tao Te Ching, recorded in response to Le Guin’s essay ‘Carrier Bag of Fiction’ for the now-postponed ‘Carrier Bag Fiction’ event at Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin.” 100% of proceeds today to be donated to the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund.

Less Than Jake – Lost At Home Sessions. Volume Two “Spirit of ’20”

Ska-punk vets Less Than Jake have are releasing the second edition of their Lost At Home Sessions at noon EST. “A portion of the proceeds will benefit For the Nomads, a fundraiser that was started by touring crew member Frank Fanelli as a direct reaction to the devastating effect COVID-19 has had on those who rely on live entertainment for a living.” It’ll be available here.

Lightning Bug – “The Great Divide”

Lightning Bug released an exclusive new track, with all proceeds going to benefit Black Table Arts.

Marissa Nadler – Old Friends/ Bookends

“This song to me now feels like a memory of a place that just doesn’t exist anymore, a romanticization of a forgotten era. A daydream of a better time. A desire to live long enough to look back,” says Marissa, who also notes “100% of the proceeds of this track will be donated to Black Lives Matter. Additionally, the sales all of my releases on Sacred Bones as well as all of their other wonderful releases will be donated tomorrow to the Loveland Foundation, a non-profit making healing services available to people of color, particularly to black women and girls, and to a nationwide bail fund that splits donations among community bail funds.”

Martin Courtney – “The Demos”

Here are demos of two songs that ended up on Real Estate’s new album The Main Thing — “Recorded on a Tascam Portastudio 414 mkII in the year 2018.” Proceeds from this will go to various bail funds, mutual aid funds, and racial justice organizers, via ActBlue.

Mudhoney – Live Mud

First digital release of Mudhoney’s long out of print limited-edition vinyl-only release from 2007, only on Bandcamp. Eleven tracks of Mudhoney live from Mexico City, recorded Dec. 10, 2005, by Brett Ellason at Patacio de los Deportes.

Mint Records – Rare Test Pressings

Canadian indie label Mint Records is offering rare test pressings from Wares (whose latest album came out April 24), The Pack A.D., lié, and Tough Age. Purchase them HERE. NNAMDÏ – BLACK PLIGHT

NNAMDÏ released a three-song EP that tackles racism and police brutality head-on, and proceeds benefit Eat Chicago and Assata’s Daughters.

The Orielles – “Bobby’s Second World” (Confidence Man Remix)

This balaeric, Madchester-y remix of The Orielles’ single “Bobby’s Second World” by Australian duo Confidence Man will only be available for 24 hours and proceeds go to Stand Against Racism & Inequality.

Parquet Courts – Full Discography on Bandcamp (via Rough Trade Records)

As of today, Parquet Courts’ entire discography is available on Bandcamp for the first time. Additionally, their label, Rough Trade, plans to donate today to Black Lives Matter.

Park the Van – Banded Against Racism compilation

Park the Van released a new compilation, Banded Against Racism, featuring unreleased recordings from BRONCHO, Floating Action, Pigeon John, Cayucas, BOYO, Drew Citron. In addition, they are donating all proceeds from this compilation to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund.

Pelican – New EP benefiting Color of Change

Chicago band Pelican have a limited edition, 8-song, digital-only EP of non-album tracks today, with all proceeds being donated to Color of Change. It will only be available for 24 hours.

Plastic Miracles Records – ‘Tear the Fascists Down’ EP (Oceanator & Bartees Strange)

Three protest song covers by Oceanator and Bartees Strange. They note all money will go to the New York affiliate of Survived and Punished, “a coalition of defense campaigns and grassroots groups committed to eradicating the criminalization of survivors of domestic and sexual violence and the culture of violence that contributes to it. Post punk band Shopping recorded this KEXP session during their 2020 tour which mostly got canceled due to the coronavirus. Proceeds from this release go to the Bail Project and National Memorial Family Fund.

Strand of Oaks – Ambient For Change

Tim from Strand of Oaks says: “I wrote these five songs in the midst of heartbreak for the tragic events in our country. Scranton/Philly punks The Menzingers released a jangly protest song that directly discusses the murder of George Floyd. All profits will benefit ActBlue’s community bail funds fundraiser and Campaign Zero.

Kaonashi – “O’ Ear Or Ailing Lawlessly, Or Give Me”

Rising, Equal Vision-signed post-hardcore/metalcore band Kaonashi released this new rager. “100% of proceeds will go towards the Philadelphia Bail Fund. Fuck the lyrics. Black lives matter. All cops are bad. R.I.P George Floyd.”

Tomberlin – “Natural Light” (Casiotone for the Painfully Alone cover)

Sarah Beth Tomberlin is donating all proceeds from her new Casiotone for the Painfully Alone cover to Breonna Taylor’s family. “The proceeds made on the days following will be donated to the Black Lives Matter fund and various funds that pay reparations to Black organizations in need,” she writes. “(II’ve become aware of many funds during this time and want to contribute to as many as possible) ”

Shygirl & Arca – “unconditional”

100% of funds generated from sales of Shygirl’s new track, which Arca produced, will be divided between Black Lives Matter and Inquest UK.

Shamir – “Something That’s Worth my Praises”

Shamir’s new single “Something That’s Worth my Praises” will only be available today, and half the proceeds will be split between the Center for Black Equity, Black Lives Matter Philly, and the Philadelphia Bail Fund.

Hot Snakes – “The Put You Up To This”

This is Hot Snakes’ side of their 2018 split single with Mudhoney, released as a limited-edition 7″ for Sub Pop’s 30th anniversary. Released digitally for the first time ever and is only available for 24 hours.

Maassai – Unsounded Points of View

Brooklyn avant-rapper writes, “UPOV (Unsounded Points of View) is a short EP prompted by words created to summarize feelings that are difficult to describe. This project is maassai’s attempt to tangibly express these feelings.”

Phoebe Bridgers – Inner Demos

Phoebe Bridgers shared the “first drafts” of three songs off her new album Punisher, and is donating the proceeds to bail funds. Purchase them HERE.

Old Man Gloom – “Willing Vessel” b​/​w “Storms In Our Eyes”

Having already released two killer full-length albums this year, Old Man Gloom released two more songs from those sessions to benefit various bail and legal defense fund, and other racial justice organizations.

Slow Mass – Music For Ears 3

Chicago indie/post-hardcore band Slow Mass have released another two-song single in their Music For Ears series, and 100% of profits are going to Liberation Library and the Du Nord Recovery Fund.

Shabazz Palaces – “Mega Church” (ft. Stas THEE Boss)

Aaron Turner – Interminable Conniption

Aaron Turner (of Isis, Sumac, Old Man Gloom, and more) also has a new EP out to benefit various racial justice and COVID-19 relief causes.

Stoner metal vets Goatsnake put out two previously unreleased tracks to benefit Color of Change.

Pyrrhon – “Rat King Lifecycle”

New York death metal oddballs Pyrrhon released the eight-minute closer off their upcoming album Abscess Time. Vocalist Doug Moore says, “The police hide their identities and cower behind shields and armor because they’re scared of losing their grip, and they should be. ‘Rat King Lifecycle’ is about posturing, coddled bullies like them getting what’s coming to them – an awful, gasping death, like they’ve inflicted on so many others.” Bandcamp proceeds go to Campaign Zero.

Andrew Bird – Panthology Songs EP

Andrew Bird re-recorded six of his previous songs during shelter in place, and he’s donating all proceeds from the EP to the NAACP.

The Chinkees – K.A. Music

Ska-punk vets The Chinkees released their first new EP in 18 years. Read more here.

Portland’s LITHICS just released their first album for Trouble in Mind. The band’s minimal sound remains as jagged as a fallen icicle, recalling such post-punk groups as Delta 5 and Liliput.
