8 New Songs Out Today

So many artists, so little time. Each week we review five new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, show recaps, track premieres, and more all day. That includes a lot of tour announcements, a list of tonight’s NYC shows, and NY shows that just went on sale. We publish a monthly playlist of some of our favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place…

IAN BROWN (THE STONE ROSES) – “FIRST WORLD PROBLEMS”

Stone Roses frontman Ian Brown will release Ripples, his first solo album in nine years, on March 1. For the most part Ian produced it himself, and played most of the instruments — guitar, drums and more — too. The first single, “First World Problems,” is out now and you can listed below.

OBJEKT – “LOST AND FOUND” (FOUND MIX)

Electronic producer Objekt (aka Berlin based TJ Hertz) will release a new double album, titled Cocoon Crush, on November 9 via PAN. It’s his first LP since 2014’s Flatland. The record is bookended by two different mixes of “Lost and Found,” with “Lost” opening the record and “Found” closing it out. The “Found” mix is lushly ambient, warm but glitchy.

THE LEMONHEADS – “CAN’T FORGET”

It’s very nice to have Evan Dando’s warm voice back with a new Lemonheads’ LP, a sequel to 2009’s all-covers Varshons, Pt. 2 features songs by Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, Paul Westerberg, John Prine, The Bevis Frond, The Eagles, Lucinda Williams and this cover of Yo La Tengo’s sweet “Can’t Forget.” More here.

DAVE HAUSE – “LEMON HILL”

Punk singer turned folk singer Dave Hause (of The Loved Ones and The Falcon) is releasing a new EP, September Haze, on Thursday (11/1). “I had these three new songs that were themed around finding out what the next step is after I got sober,” Dave told Rolling Stone about the new EP. “That time has this strange uncertain energy and that’s the place I was in writing these songs. And it was a perpetual state of ‘September haze’ when I decided to stop drinking.” The first of the three new songs to be shared is “Lemon Hill,” which has some of Dave’s punk grit but is really a somber, melancholic, Americana-leaning folk song. (In addition to the three new songs, the EP also includes a reworked version of a song from last year’s Bury Me In Philly, and a Brandi Carlile cover.) Dave has one upcoming show at the moment: Crossroads on 11/10 in Garwood, NJ.

RAPPER BIG POOH – “PRAY | PREY”

After reuniting with Little Brother for the first time in a decade, Rapper Big Pooh has shared a new solo cut, “Pray | Prey,” which has the veteran rapper doing what he does best. It’ll appear on his new album RPM, which is due this Friday (11/2).

TYGA – “DIP” (REMIX ft. NICKI MINAJ)

Tyga put out a new version of “Dip,” and this one comes with a new fiery verse from Nicki Minaj. Nicki’s also in the video, which pays homage to Michael & Janet Jackson’s “Scream” video.

MARCUS STRICKLAND – “ON MY MIND” (ft. BILAL, PHAROAHE MONCH, GREG TATE)

Brooklyn jazz composer/saxophonist Marcus Strickland is releasing his new album People of the Sun on November 9 via Blue Note/Revive Music, and he’s streaming a new single “On My Mind,” which features neo-soul great Bilal and veteran Queens rapper Pharoahe Monch, plus oration by Greg Tate. He’s also got upcoming shows, including NYC’s Jazz Standard on November 10 & 11.

HYPER-ROMANTIC – “MILLENNIAL HEART” FT MARTINA TOPLEY-BIRD

Rich Morel, who you may know as the other half of Blastoff that’s not Bob Mould, or from his Dischord-signed postpunk band Deathfix, or his many remixes of other artists (Madonna, New Order), just started a new project called Hyper-Romantic and their debut single features Tricky collaborator Martina Topley-Bird.
