70+ artists & labels offering special releases & donations for Bandcamp’s Juneteenth fundraiser

In honor of Juneteenth, an annual holiday that celebrates the end of slavery (which is today, June 19th), Bandcamp has pledged to donate 100% of their share of sales to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, “America’s premier legal organization fighting for racial justice” (and they will be doing this every Juneteenth in the future, too). In addition, many artists and record labels have pledged to make their own donations on top of that. Some also have exclusive releases out for today’s fundraiser. You can find a list of some of the artists and labels participating below.

Sonic Youth – Perspectives Musicales – Live At Cat’s Cradle 2000

Sonic Youth have been putting out a lot of archival material on Bandcamp lately, and here’s a new live album for today’s fundraiser.

ATO Records – Silence Is Not An Option

Brittany Howard, Drive-By Truckers, Hurray For the Riff-Raff, Nilüfer Yanya, My Morning Jacket, Nick Hakim, Alabama Shakes, Amyl and The Sniffers, Honey Harper, Jim James, The Claypool Lennon Delirium, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, Temples, Margaret Glaspy, Natalie Prass, Okkervil River, Other Lives, Rodrigo y Gabriela and more are featured on this compilation from ATO Records, and 100% of net proceeds go to Black Lives Matter Greater NY, Color of Change, and Innocence Project.

Emily Reo – “One Eye on the Sky”

All Bandcamp proceeds today from Emily Reo’s new single, “One Eye on the Sky,” are going to The Okra Project & The Marsha P. Johnson Institute.

Converge

With their 100% Campaign, Converge have been donating 100% of Bandcamp sales to a different non-profit each week. This week is the Navajo Nation COVID-19 Fund, which “has been established to help the Navajo Nation respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. This is the Navajo Nation’s only official COVID-19 fundraising and donation effort.” Visit Converge’s Bandcamp here.

Björk

Björk put all of her albums up on Bandcamp, and she’s donating proceeds from all sales to Black Lives Matter UK.

UK punk/country/etc icons Mekons surprise released new album Exquisite today as a Bandcamp exclusive.

The Front Bottoms – Ukulele Versions

The Front Bottoms released ukulele versions of their tracks, “Everyone Blooms” and “Camouflage,” with 100% of sales being donated to Black Visions Collective.


Secretly & Numero Group

Earlier this week, it was announced that the 20-year-old label Ghostly International merged with the Secretly group (Jagjaguwar, Dead Oceans and Secretly Canadian) and Numero Group. All of those labels will be “earmarking 100% of the label’s share of digital revenue to a new, employee-led fund, which will gear all money toward anti-racism and racial justice initiatives and organizations.”

Sloan

Back in 2013, Canadian alt-rock band Sloan paid tribute to their early hardcore influences on a 7″ that featured songs by Chris Murphy and Patrick Pentland in that style. They’ve never been available digitally before today. Sloan are committing to donating all proceeds raised from the sale of these tracks to supporting Black Lives Matter – Toronto.

Spirit Adrift – Angel & Abyss Redux EP

Nate Garrett says, “When Marcus and I caught wind that Bandcamp was donating its proceeds on June 19 2020 to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, we felt compelled to contribute somehow. Since our forthcoming record has zero clean guitar on it, we thought it would be cool to do something with an ‘unplugged’ type of vibe.” It features an acoustic version of “Angel & Abyss” from last year’s great Divided By Darkness and covers of Roky Erickson and Jimi Hendrix. 100% of proceeds made from the EP will be donated to NAACP in perpetuity.

Toro y Moi – “Ordinary Guy” (feat. The Mattson 2) (Joe Baatan cover)

Toro y Moi writes, “I’m super excited to announce this release. It’s a cover of a song by a fellow Afro-Filipino, Joe Bataan. His music first caught my ear back in 2009 when Ryan Kattner of Man Man played it for me. I was immediately hooked by Joe’s music because, to me, he represented the impossible–he felt so comfortable in his skin and he had so much confidence and appeal.” Toro will donate his share of proceeds to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund too.

Tunde Adebimpe – “PEOPLE”

TV On The Radio’s Tunde Adebimipe released this new single that he calls “a public service announcement.” Proceeds will be divided between the Southern Poverty Law Center, the ACLU, & the Movement for Black Lives.

Anything purchased from the Wilco or Jeff Tweedy Bandcamps will directly support the NAACP Legal Defense Fund.
