79.5 releasing debut LP on Big Crown (stream 2 tracks)

NYC soul band 79.5 are releasing their debut album Predictions on September 28 via Big Crown Records (pre-order). The album was produced by label co-founder Leon Michels (of El Michels Affair), and it’s cut from a similar retro-soul cloth as other Leon Michels productions. The band recently released lead single “Boy Don’t Be Afraid,” and we’re now premiering second single “I Stay, You Stay,” which is the first song on the album. Both songs are a little different, and both make the album seem very promising. Sometimes it feels like you’re listening to a lost ’70s soul album, but other times 79.5 sound surprisingly modern. Stream both songs below.

79.5 have two shows coming up at the moment, both in their hometown. The first is a Big Crown showcase on Saturday (8/11) at Rough Trade, headlined by The Shacks and also featuring Holy Hive and DJ sets from label founders El Michels & Danny Akalepse (tickets). The second is a release show for Predictions on September 27 at Nublu with Holy Hive and DJ sets from Danny Akalepse and Chances with Wolves (tickets).
