Michael Kiwanuka Solid Ground

9 New Songs Out Today

So many artists, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, show recaps, track premieres, and more all day. That includes a lot of tour announcements, a list of tonight’s NYC shows, and NY shows that just went on sale. We publish a monthly playlist of some of our favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place…

MICHAEL KIWANUKA – “SOLID GROUND”

The anticipated new Michael Kiwanuka album KIWANUKA finally drops this Friday, and he has shared another gorgeous single ahead of its release. This one’s a string-laden slow-burner that starts out on his more subdued side, but builds to a climax as explosive as any of his biggest singles.

SIX ORGANS OF ADMITTANCE – “TWO FORMS MOVING”

Ben Chasny will be back with Companion Rises, his first Six Organs of Admittance first album in three years, on February 21 via Drag City. The label says the record “presents a handful of folk-tales whose topics span in scope from panspermia to specific constellations, all written in a way that eschews old new age presentation tropes and embraces the now.” The first taste is “Two Forms Moving” which sprinkles layers of noise onto a gentle, mostly one-chord drone jam.

BARELY MARCH – “LEAD SINGLE (SINGLE VERSION)”

Have you ever felt like you needed a song that was part vocoder chipmunk pop, part rage-inducing hardcore? Me neither, but it turns out, I totally did.

RULE THEM ALL – “DREAMS ABOUT…”

If you go to hardcore shows in New York, there’s a good chance you’ve seen Long Island’s Rule Them All (whose upcoming schedules includes gigs opening for Backtrack and Shelter), and if you dig the bands they tend to play with, you’re probably gonna dig Rule Them All too. Their new EP Dreams About… drops December 6 via Flatspot Records, and the opening title track is NYHC revival done right.

POP. 1280 – “UNDER DURESS”

Brooklyn gothy post-punks Pop. 1280 are gearing up to release new album Way Station on December 6 vai Weyrd Son Records. “Under Duress” is set to simmer, with the band slowing seething across four minutes of drone and dread.

TAME IMPALA – “IT MIGHT BE TIME”

A little delayed, Tame Impala’s new album The Slow Rush will be out Valentine’s Day 2020 and here’s the new single.

NORMANI – “MOTIVATION” (21 SAVAGE REMIX)

Normani’s “Motivation” remains one of the year’s most unstoppable pop songs, and now it’s been blessed with a very fine new verse from 21 Savage.

GIANTS CHAIR – “DIRTY WINTER”

Kansas City post-hardcore/emo vets Giants Chair are releasing their first new album in 23 years this December, and you can read more about new single “Dirty Winter” here.

TAYLOR HAWKINS & THE COATTAIL RIDERS – “MIDDLE CHILD” (ft. DAVE GROHL)

Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins has shared another song from his upcoming guest-filled solo album. This is one of the four songs featuring Dave Grohl, and it’s another dose of Classic Rock Radio worship.
