After nearly 50 years on air, NYC radio station 95.5 WPLJ signing off for the last time on May 31, 2019. The station tweeted the news, writing, "more details to follow shortly. Thank you for the years of support and for listening!"

Not that we ever find ourselves listening to WPLJ in 2019 -- or FM radio much at all (though thank you WNYC and WFMU for still existing!), we -- and probably anybody who has lived in the NYC/NJ-area long enough to remember the days when FM radio was king -- still feel a bit of nostalgia at the mention of 95.5, one of the handful of stations we will forever have memorized along with 100.3, 97.1, 92.3, and the few other mainstream pop, hip hop and rock stations that dominated the airwaves.

Contemporary Christian station K-Love (WKLV) takes over 95.5 on June 1, RadioInsight reports.
