A Giant Dog share "Sleep When Dead" video from Merge debut, on tour now

Austin glammy, punky rock band A Giant Dog have made a video for “Sleep When Dead” which is off their just-released Merge Records debut, Pile. The band’s Sabrina Ellis does a good job of describing the fun, surreal video, saying it’s “like Soul Train on acid; a chaotic cage match of disco vs. punk. You feel wide awake but know you’re dreaming because everything feels a little wrong.” Director John Valley (who plays the misfit punk lead in the video) adds:

I think this video was good for both the band and myself in that it stretched us beyond our resources and comfort zones. It created a really cool urgency from the first meeting on. We had 11 people behind the camera. I was getting makeup applied to my face for four hours before the day even started. I had one breakfast taco towards the end. Shooting this thing was a helluva ride.

The “Sleep When Dead” video premieres in this post and you can watch it below.

As mentioned, A Giant Dog’s tour hits NYC later this month: Cake Shop on May 26 with GunFight! and They live! (tickets) and rooftop show at Our Wicked Lady on May 27. with The Mad Doctors, The Nude Party, and Best Behavior (tickets).
