Who everyone was really here to see, though, was A$AP Rocky, whose arrival took time. But that was fair: As the purple stage curtain drew back, it revealed a three-tiered platform that the crew had built between sets, replete with members of the A$AP Mob--including A$AP Nast and A$AP Twelvyy--and Rocky's DJs.
"Lord Pretty Flacko Jodye 2 (LPFJ2)" resonated throughout the arena as Rocky emerged, enveloped by flashing red lights and smoke. Throughout the course of the night, he played a bulk of At. Long. Last. A$AP, performing on all levels of the terrace-like structure.
At one point, everyone else left and it was just Rocky, illuminated on the second level. "Thanks to all the other acts for being talented, for their love and creativity. F*** all that mainstream s**t," he bellowed into the mic. His heartfelt moment was followed by one of the more heartfelt, melodic tracks from ALLA, "L$D." [Revolt TV]
Four killer rappers, A$AP Rocky, Tyler the Creator, Danny Brown and Vince Staples are currently on the road together, and that tour hit NYC for a sold-out show at the Theater at MSG on Tuesday (9/22). As the above review points out, Rocky was who the most people came to see, but at least as exciting was opener Vince Staples whose Summertime '06 is one of the very best albums of this year. Vince came out during Rocky's set to do his song "Señorita" too. The floor was shaking big time from people jumping around. It was a wild show.
