AFI/No Doubt supergroup DREAMCAR announce debut LP & tour, share video
DREAMCAR, the new supergroup that has AFI frontman Dave Havok backed by 3/4 of No Doubt (everyone except Gwen Stefani), have detailed their debut album and announced a tour. The album is self-titled and comes out on May 12 via Columbia. The lead single is "Kill For Candy," which has the band diving head first into '80s pop rock. With hints of The Fixx, Peter Schilling, or Flock of Seagulls' "I Ran" (via those guitar stabs), there's hardly a modern thing about it. "We were teens in the Eighties, and that's the kind of music that we all grew up on. When you're in those really formative years, from, like, 13 to 19, what you listen to is so influential, and I think that's just part of our being now," bassist Tony Kanal told Rolling Stone. The song has a new video, directed by Frank Borin, which you can watch below.
DREAMCAR's first-announced live appearances were weekends one and two of Coachella, and now they have dates running through late May. They'll hit NYC on May 19 at Irving Plaza with Superet opening. Tickets for that show go on sale Friday (4/7) at 10 AM with Live Nation/Music Geeks/fan club presales starting Wednesday (4/5) at 10 AM. All dates are listed below.
No Doubt remain in hibernation (Gwen Stefani is up to other stuff), but AFI have been very active this year. They have a new album out, recently toured with Nothing and Souvenirs, and will hit the road again in June with those same two bands. They also play Firefly, Bunbury, and When We Were Young Fest.
