On December 15, it will be time to officially say goodbye to those poorly animated icons, Taking Back Sunday lyrics in size-10 pink Comic Sans MS font over a black background tYpEd liKe tHis, your profile with the exact date you starting dating your middle school significant other, embarrassing screennames you’ve possibly owned since the ’90s (which possibly had random Xs in them), and all those curse-word-ridden conversations with SmarterChild. AOL Instant Messenger (aka AIM) is officially shutting down that day, AOL reported today.

“AIM tapped into new digital technologies and ignited a cultural shift, but the way in which we communicate with each other has profoundly changed. As a result we’ve made the decision that we will be discontinuing AIM effective December 15, 2017,” they write.

It’s a sad day for all the AIMers out there. At least ICQ and LiveJournal live on!
