Alamo Drafthouse Brooklyn opening delayed, now opening "soon"

Well, the sign is up.

The much-anticipated, long-in-the-works Brooklyn branch of indie theater chain Alamo Drafthouse was slated to open this summer — you may have seen Subway ads touting “coming August 2017”. Well here we are on the last day of August and Alamo Draftouse NYC has not opened yet. So when is it opening now? “Soon,” Draftouse HQ informs, adding “Getting a business open in New York is…complicated,” in an official, nicely conversational statement:

So, back to the original question: when is the theater opening? To be perfectly honest, we don’t have an answer right now. If you’ve seen our Instagram account lately, you know our theater looks ready to go, and we can’t wait for you to see it in person. We just can’t say exactly when that will be.

Everyone here at the Alamo Drafthouse, and specifically at the Downtown Brooklyn venue, appreciates all your endless enthusiasm and excitement for the new theater. It’s a frustrating time for us as well and knowing we have your support means a lot to every one of us. Know that when we finally get the word that we can open, we will let you know as soon as possible.

You can read the whole thing here. Judging by Alamo NYC’s instagram, it looks ready to go (barring all that annoying red tape). We can’t wait to see it. Best of luck!

It’s not just Alamo Drafthouse, either. As you may recall, the theater (which has a performance space too) is part of the massive City Point development which will include a Trader Joe’s and the Dekalb Market Hall fancy food court (Katz’s, Ample Hills, Bun-Ker Vietnamese) that was slated to open this fall. Brownstoner reports that the City Point opening has been delayed to 2017.
