Alanis Morissette teams w/ ‘Juno’ scribe Diablo Cody for ‘Jagged Little Pill’ musical
Alanis Morissette's classic 1995 album Jagged Little Pill is becoming a musical. Juno screenwriter Diablo Cody wrote an original story based on the album, which, according to Playbill, "will follow a modern, multi-generational family and will explore gender identity and race." The show will feature songs from Jagged Little Pill, including "Ironic,” “You Oughta Know,” and “Hand in My Pocket,” as well as other material of Morissette's and new songs written for the production. Tom Kitt, who also worked on the musical for Green Day's American Idiot, as well as Next to Normal and If/Then, will do orchestrations and arrangements for Jagged Little Pill.
The show is set to open in May of 2018 at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The ART's artistic director, Diane Paulus, will stage the production. According to the The New York Times, Paulus called Jagged Little Pill "one of the most important albums of the last 30 years," and Ms. Morissette a female artist "with courage and power and vulnerability."
In other theater news, Harry Potter and The Cursed Child is coming to the USA, to Broadway’s Lyric Theatre, in April of 2018.
