alt-J have been announcing 2018 dates in continued support of their very solid third album, 2017’s Relaxer, including such festivals as Indio, CA’s Coachella, Manchester, TN’s Bonnaroo, Dover, DE’s Firefly, and Upstate NY’s Mountain Jam.
Right before Mountain Jam, alt-J will make their way to Queens for a big show at Forest Hills Stadium on June 15. It’s an awesome double bill, with crossover jazz great Kamasi Washington, who released his Harmony of Difference EP last year (and also plays Coachella). This is the only show that the two artists have together (for now at least), and it’s a unique show that will be in surround sound. Here’s more details:
The Forest Hills Stadium performance will mark the largest venue alt-J has ever headlined in North America, and is the only immersive sound show in the continent. In another first for the band, the show will feature a surround speaker system enveloping the entire audience. The speakers will be used throughout the show to position sound effects mixed into a variety of the band’s material, thus creating an immersive sound experience. The band has recently won the prestigious ‘Knights Of Illumination’ award for lighting production in an arena, which will also be featured at this show. For this special event, the entire venue will be general admission, including floor and bowl, so that fans can enjoy the show from every angle.
