Alt-J @ MSG - 3/30/15 (via @ld125)

Seamy guitar distortion starts early and coils in intensity; by the set closer The Gospel of John Hurt, this year's loveliest ballad about chest-bursting aliens, it is marrow-rattling, offset by fills from the slily inventive drummer Thom Green. An encore spin through Bill Withers's Lovely Day is a methodical, proggy deconstruction with arrestingly forlorn crests.

More than anything, the fits of audience singalongs are a marvel to behold. Newman's most hair-raising sexual solicitations ("Turn you inside out and lick you like a crisp packet," "Till morning comes, let's tessellate") are howled back at him by the whole, huge room. It's an oddly inspiring dialogue inside Alt-J's larger victory at the Garden - a night that should ensure there are more stadiums full of misfits in their future. [The Guardian]

Alt-J came to NYC this week for their largest headlining show here yet, selling out Madison Square Garden on Monday (3/30), less than three years after their NYC debut at Mercury Lounge. We got almost all of both of their albums, including their cover of Bill Withers' "Lovely Day" that appears as a hidden track at the end of This Is All Yours. Were you at the show? How was it? Full setlist below.

While they were in NYC, Alt-J also stopped by The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon to play "Every Other Freckle." And they've since added several more North American dates running through mid-October (nothing else in NYC yet). All dates are listed, with that Fallon video, below.

Opening the MSG show was Phantogram, who also since added more tour dates, including a NYC-area show at Long Island's Paramount on May 29. Tickets for that show are on venue presale now, and go on sale to the general public Friday (4/3) at 10 AM. That's one day before they play the Roots Picnic in Philly.

All Phantogram dates are listed below too...
