AM Overcast

When I was introduced to A.M. Overcast (the project of Alexander Litinsky), I was told they sound a little like the now-defunct underrated Buffalo band Damiera. That’s a pretty esoteric comparison, especially if you’re trying to sell a relatively unknown artist, but it was enough to get me to listen and it’s pretty damn spot on. It also reminds me of the first Rescue album, and if you like Rescue or Damiera you’ve probably already stopped reading this and clicked play. But if those bands are no more familiar to you than A.M. Overcast is, picture all the stop-start rhythms and wacky time signatures of math rock worked into hooky power pop that’s entirely listenable even if you could care less that a song’s in 7/8 vs 4/4. Their new EP, Lexicon Palace, is 7 tracks in about 10 minutes that really act as 7 miniature suites of one song, all flowing seamlessly into the next. The EP was recorded by Craig Boychuck (KEN mode, Fuck the Facts) and it’s out today via Soft Speak Records. Before you pick up your copy though, you can check out a stream of the full thing which premieres in this post.
