Alt-country musician Amanda Shires has been doing a lot of touring this year in support of her very good new album My Piece of Land, and she returned to NYC last night (10/19) for a Mercury Lounge show. She played a lot of her new album and covered Loudon Wainwright III's song "Daughter," which she prefaced by saying she has a little daughter that she has to be away from to tour and this is the best song about daughters. Her encore was another cover, "The Devil Went Down to Georgia," which she asked no one to record because they hadn't adequately practiced it.
