American Lips (mem DFA1979) made a video for "Beyond the 7-11" off debut LP

American Lips

Death From Above 1979 drummer/singer Sebastien Grainger is now also drumming and singing backup for a new band American Lips. The band also has Adrian Popovich (ex-Tricky Woo) on guitar and vocals and his wife Jessica Bruzzese on bass and vocals, and their debut album Kiss The Void is due out on June 16 (pre-order). We’re premiering the video for “Beyond the 7-11,” which was written, directed, and edited by Sebastien. It’s not too far off from DFA1979’s dance-punk, so fans of that band should definitely check this out. Here’s what the band tells us about it:

We wanted “Beyond The 7-11” to sound as if David Lynch played rhythm guitar in The Buzzcocks. It’s about the endless sea of the human mind and how you can’t buy a damn Slurpee in Montreal. Seb played drums in a kindergarten classroom, Jess played bass while waiting for the bus, and Adrian played guitar laying on his side. This recording cost $2.75 Canadian.

The band is playing Sled Island this year and they have other upcoming Canadian dates. All are listed below.
