Andrew Bird helped 'Celebrate Brooklyn' in Prospect Park (pics)

Andrew Bird kicked off the Celebrate Brooklyn 2011 season at Prospect Park on Friday (6/10). The venue was still filling with fans who had stood online for over an hour by the time Andrew took the stage at 8:30. The free show was not as packed as I’ve seen the bandshell area get, but it was full and many were crowding outside the gates to watch. Andrew came out by himself with nothing more than a violin for a few solo performances before he was joined by his band for the remainder of the hour and a half set. Fortunately the weather held out for the entire set (it started raining later that night). Norah Jones didn’t have the same luck when she helped open the 2010 season. A list of many of the songs Andrew played is below, as are more pics from the show.

Andrew Bird goes on a solo tour in the fall which hits Bardavon 1869 Opera House in Poughkeepsie on October 17 (tickets) and Tarrytown Music Hall in Tarrytown on October 21 (tickets).

The Decemberists and Best Coast play Prospect Park Tuesday. The not-free show is sold out. The next free show is courtesy of Hal Willner and friends on Thursday.
