Animal Collective Sung Tongs

Animal Collective playing 'Sung Tongs' in full at Pitchfork's 21st anniversary

Before Animal Collective broke out in a huge way thanks to 2009’s poppy Merriweather Post Pavillion, they were one of the leaders of the mid-2000s freak folk movement, and they’ll be revisiting those days very soon. On December 2 at the Knockdown Center in Queens, they’ll play Pitchfork’s 21st birthday party and perform their classic 2004 album Sung Tongs in full for the first time ever. (Sung Tongs was Pitchfork’s #2 album of 2004 and their #27 album of the 2000s.) Tickets are on sale now.

UPDATE (11/20): (Sandy) Alex G, Moses Sumney and Topaz Jones were added as openers. The show is sold out.

It’s the only currently announced Animal Collective date, but co-frontman Avey Tare is touring, including a NYC show on October 23 at Bowery Ballroom with support from fellow AnCo member Geologist and AnCo’s touring drummer Jeremy Hyman (tickets). Updated Avey Tare dates are listed below (some were recently cancelled).
