Truly an angel from heaven, Antony performed with his band, The Johnsons, at Joe’s Pub in NYC on January 9th, 2005. I must be blessed. Why else would I be so lucky as to witness two such heavenly creatures in one weekend. Friday – Keren Ann, Sunday – Antony and The Johnsons.

Enjoy these photos of what was one of the most breathtaking, emotional performaces I’ve ever seen. Joe’s Pub was the perfect venue for Antony – much better than Bowery Ballroom where I saw him last, and will see him next.

Among those in attendance was Devendra Banhart, who makes a guest appearance on Antony’s upcoming album. Devendra has been quoted as saying “Antony is my favorite living singer, hands down.”

I’m not sure if Rufus Wainwright was there, although Antony did mention him in one of the only stories he told on stage. (I did see their common friend, Michael Cavadias, though). Antony made an appearance on Wainwright’s last album, and Rufus does the same on Antony’s next one. The ‘next one’ I’m talking about is called I am a Bird Now, and comes out on February 1st.

Also spotted: Nicola Rainbird Bowery, in town from London. She spent the night before at a party in honor of her late husband, Leigh Bowery, at Chelsea’s Perry Rubenstein Gallery.
